Chapter 15
The Truth

💌

SUNGJAE

I found myself endlessly tossing and turning in bed the night after I brought Reshmi to the Han River. Frankly, I didn't quite understand what's going on with myself.

It just feels so nice whenever I'm with her. She's so easy and fun to be with. I feel like I could tell her anything and she would just be chill about it. I could be anything around her without a judgement waiting for me.

It's so different when I'm with Taeyoon. Aside from the fact that she's always seemed to be busy, she never really seemed interested about the things I try to tell her about my life.

I knew deep inside that it was a warning sign to compare your girlfriend to another girl, but I'm trying to make our relationship work. I'm doing everything she likes and let her do whatever keeps her busy. It's just almost a month but I already felt somewhat... exhausted. I know this isn't how it's supposed to be.

I tried telling her this afternoon about the big event tomorrow but she cut me off by going on about how annoying her mother is. I could listen to her problems, but I wish she would listen to mine too, that way we could be each other's comfortㅡthe way she comforted me in those letters.

I sighed and turned on the lampshade. I took the orange notebook laying on the night table and opened to the page I was reading last time.

Living here is not as easy as anyone would think, but this is my dream; to live far, far away from home, away from all the expectations, old traditions, and maintaining a certain image to the public, and chasing my dreams how I want to.

What is she talking about? Did Taeyoon live in another country before? She never mentioned that to me.

I flipped the page and went on reading.

Actually, I can't do anything about what just happened. Sungjae's family owns the convenience store where I am working as a part-timer and because of that, he might have looked down on me few times before this.

My heart seemed to have stopped beating and the silence of the night was suddenly deafening. My eyes scanned the rest of the entry and I was left in disbelief. I couldn't believe how stupid I'd been.

CS: YOOK SUNGJAE FIGHTING! WE'RE ROOTING FOR YOU.

PN: Good luck, Sungjae.

IH: Don't do anything stupid there please. Good luck!

HS: What's going on here? I just woke up.

I woke up because my phone kept on vibrating. I read the messages with my eyes half closed.

I flew off the bed when I realized that I don't have much time to prepare for the event.

I was about to leave my apartment when I received another text message:

MINWOO: Yook! Today is the 6th. :) See? It's your lucky number. Everything's gonna be fine!

A smile crept on my face. There are men in black suits waiting for me outside. They led me to the car my father sent and drove me to the place.

I got a call from Taeyoon while I was still in the car.

"Hey,”

"Morning, babe. Will you pick me up today? I really don't wanna take the bus today..."
