Chapter 5
I Choose You

💌

SUNGJAE

"Are you okay now?" Kyunghee asked me. She carefully placed the cup of coffee on the table and looked at me.

I smiled tightly. "Yes, getting better."

"Really?"

I nodded. "So, I'm sorry... for that day."
For coming to you, and for wanting to be in your arms during that painful day. Also, thank you for letting me be. "And thank you, for not pushing me away."

"Yaaah, why would I push you away?" She took a deep breath and smiled. "I'm always here when you need a friend."

Words of assurance but they left a bitter taste on my tongue. “I don't want to be your friend.” I told her.

Her jaw dropped, smile faded away from her face. “Sungjae...”

I took a deep breath. “You know about my feelings for you. I know you don't feel the same way, but... I don't think I can ever be friends with someone I liked.” Someone I pretty much still like a lot.

She nodded and looked down on her own hands. "I understand. I'm sorry." She sighed and looked at me again. "I'm sorry." She repeated.

I grinned. “That's right! You should be sorry. Aish, what a player. Don't you know how pure my heart is?”

Kyunghee smiled, realizing I was kidding. “Thank you, Sungjae. You too, someday, will find someone who's meant for you.”

I was starting to feel better with the help of my friends, of finally letting Kyunghee go, of the letters I received every day. I was ready to put my mind on my assignment, so I paid the convenience store a visit, grabbed a ramen and a pack of banana milk.

“Yah, come here.” I called over Reshmi as she was making her way inside the store to take over the shift.

She stopped, looking stunned. “Me?” She asked, pointing at herself before looking around to see nobody else there.

I nodded. "Yes, you.”

She slowly walked towards me, uncertain.

“Aish, hurry!” I said impatiently.

I grinned when she began walking faster. “Sit down.” I told her.

“What is it? I'm going to be lateㅡ”

“I've talked to your manager, so don't worry.”

“Okaaay, but why would youㅡ”

“Why do you ask so many questions? Do you wanna get fired?”

Reshmi stared at me for a while and then sighed. “Fine. What?”

“What's your name?” I asked, taking my phone and started recording.

“You don't remember?” She asked, her shoulders dropping slightly as if disappointed.

I looked at her. “Yah, this is an interview. Interview. Just answer.”
