Chapter 7
Untouchable💌
RESHMI
My classes end at 3PM every Tuesday. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the meet up.
Seeun will finish at five today. I sighed and sat on one of the picnic tables there.
“Resh, you're not going home yet?” The student from one of my classes asked.
“Will do in a bit.” I replied with a smile.
“Alright. See ya tomorrow!”
I sat there waiting for the hour to pass while listening to music. My mind is filled of what ifs. But I've made up my mind. I'm not showing up there. I really don't want to disappoint him. If he likes my letters, then that's good enough for me. I want to remain that someone who could make him feel good, maybe better even just with words. He doesn't need to know I was behind those letters. He doesn't need to know me. He can stay where he is in my life. Untouchable.
3:58 PM.
I got up and felt like every step I take towards the library was so heavy. It took a minute to get near the library and it was 3:59, but he was already there. I stopped walking and stared at him from a distance.
He kept on looking at his wristwatch from time to time, then he'd walk in front of the library back and forth. His left hand was tapping his leg while his eyes searched.
I took a deep, deep breath and made my way to him. Our eyes met for a short second but he just nodded his head a little as a form of greeting, no suspicions or expectations that I could be the one behind the letters.
I looked down and made my way inside the library. My heart was palpitating inside my chest and I felt so upset with myself and everything.
I quietly searched for books I didn't really need and borrowed them from the library. Maybe I was there inside for five to ten minutes and when I peeked outside through the glass door of the library, I saw Sungjae sitting on the stairs with a notebook in his hand.
My heart beat's pace seemed to double the speed when I realized how familiar the notebook was.
My diary! No. No. No. He can't read it. Not him. Especially not him.
But he opened it almost carefully and I knew he was reading.
I let out a defeated sigh. Of all people, why does he have to be the one to pick it up? And why is he reading it now? Why is he even interested?
I was standing there for about five more minutes when the librarian called me.
"Ahgassi, why don't you take a seat?"
I shook my head. “N-No, I'm fine here. Thanks.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
Maybe after half an hour, I saw him get up and leave. I couldn't believe he waited that long.
I'm sorry, Sungjae.
I left the books beside the counter and the librarian gave me a strange look. I hurried out of the place to my part-time job.
💌
SUNGJAE
I didn't know what to feel at the moment. I just left the library and I'm on my way to the convenience store.
