Chapter One
BEFORE
Nathan and Dana

Cobalt-blue eyes, mocha brown, combed-back hair and a small smile on his rosy red lips caused Dana to be confronted with one of her biggest fears again. Something about him seemed different. No life left in the usually comforting cobalt-blue eyes which brought her so much joy and pain at the same time.

He was lost.

The boy standing in front of Dana's house was broken, ashamed. It had been his fault that she had shut him out of her life. Her reasons were understandable and he knew that. He knew that he made the biggest mistake of all. That was why he found himself walking back to the white wooden door of her house, trying to tell her how much he still loved her, how deeply messed up and lonely he has been because of what he had done.

"Dana", he breathed, his shaky voice filled with grief when his eyes met her seaweed-green ones.

Eyes in which he has always found himself deeply sunken in. The green in her eyes has always calmed him down, showing him that he didn't have to be scared as long as she was with him.

"Nathan", her singing voice whispered and his heartbeat started to raise, butterflies fluttering through his stomach and he recognized pain and love in her glance.

"I'm so sorry", he apologized, knowing that this wouldn't change a thing, but he wanted her to know that he regretted every second he didn't spend with her because of his stupid decision.

"I was an a'sshole back then, I know that what I did was wrong and I just wanted to let you know that I am truly sorry for what I did", he mumbled, his words heavy as they left his tongue.

Dana's eyes were glued to the cobalt-blue ones which always helped her to escape the lonely life she had lived before she met Nathan.

"I forgive you", as soon as those words left her dried lips a breath of relief fled out of his mouth and his eyes drowned into her sad ones.

It has been weeks since she has seen him last. Weeks of loneliness and sorrow. Weeks in which she hadn't slept, hadn't eaten because she was still hurt. Hurt by his actions.

His words were still buzzing through her ears as if it had only been yesterday.

"You betrayed me Nathan! I've trusted you and you used this trust for your own good", sobs escaped out of her pink-colored lips and one single tear slowly trickled down her pale skin.

The pain in her chest was still present, leaving scars in her heart.

"It was wrong. I know, but your family has more than enough of it so I thought that it wouldn't hurt anybody if I take a few bills", he confessed with strong and monotonous voice, completely ignoring the fact that every single word of his triggered more pain to travel through her chest.

He used her. Used her for her money to get them off of his back.

"You should've told me instead of stealing it from me. I would've helped you", she yelled. Anger pumping through her veins and she has never felt so furious before.

Why didn't he trust her enough to tell her what was going on? Did he think that she wouldn't understand that he needed to borrow some money to pay off the debts from his past?
