ATHENA grinned at her boyfriend of three years from across the restaurant table, him concentrating on finishing the dessert in front of him.
MATTHEW was actually paying a lot of attention to the latina in front of him, he was just much too nervous to look her in the eyes. It felt like the day he asked her to move in with him, the box in his pocket feeling like a weight.
What if she said no? What if she wants to break up with me? What if she's found someone better?
His minds were swarming with ways she could reject him, ways she could dump him right then and there.
Matt finished his food, glancing up at Athena.
"I guess it's time to go then."
The couple stood up from their chairs, walking over to the counter to pay for their meal, lacing their hands together.
As they walked out of the restaurant, Athena could feel Matt's hand shaking, his free one reaching for the box in his coat pocket.
"Matt?" She questioned as he stopped in his tracks.
"I have something to ask you." His voice quivered, him getting down on one knee as he pulled the small box out of his pocket.
"Matt..." Athena trailed off, her mouth gaping slightly.
"Athena Costia Castillo, ever since the day you accidentally texted me three years ago, you've been the only thing on my mind. I love you more than life itself, and it would be an honor to call you my wife. Athena, will you marry me?"
Athena had tears in her eyes as she looked down at the man that she loved.
"Yes. A thousand times yes." She cried, wrapping her arms around Matt.
"Oh thank god, I thought you were going to reject me."
