2. The Calm Before The Storm

Yuu's POV:

School corridor - 8:28am (2 minutes until first lesson)

'I can't believe it. That sly little fox actually managed to get away from me.' I thought, gasping for breath as I opened my locker. 'Where could he have gone? I looked absolutely everywh- THE ROOF!' Of course, he must be on the roof, that's the only place I haven't checked. I was just about to break into a run and check that one final place when the bell rang for our lesson. I wonder if he'll actually show up for this one.

Sure enough, there he was, five minutes late. He strolled into the lesson, hidden among a group of 4 other latecomers... wait, those aren't just any latecomers! That's Shinoa, Yoichi, Mitsuba and Shiho! What the hell are they all doing together, they didn't even like Mika when they first met him and now they're stuck together like glue turning up to lessons late? I don't think I've ever seen him with any of them before, so why was he with them now? Has he just cast me aside and upgraded to a bigger group? My group? As all of these questions swirled around my brain, causing a slight ache in my chest, I realised something. They were all looking at me (aside from Mika of course, no surprise there) all of them were staring at me, grinning these sly little grins like they knew something I didn't. Had Mika been making fun of me behind my back? Telling them embarrassing things about me to make them laugh so that they would ditch me too and only be friends with him? No... Surely not Mika, he's always been too kind for that sort of thing. So what are they smiling about? This is so frustrating! Here I am worrying about him, thinking he's troubled, yet he walks into class with a group of friends looking as happy and chirpy as ever. AND HE STILL WOULDN'T LOOK AT ME!

*30 minutes into the lesson*

I can't get him out of my head now, I mean who does he think he is? We've been best friends ever since my first day at the orphanage when he wouldn't take "go away" for an answer and pestered me until I finally liked him enough not to mind his company anymore. Now after all that effort establishing our friendship, after everything we've been through over the years, all the crap we fought through in that horrible war, after I accepted him as a vampire before any other human did! He's just tossing me to one side. *Tears start to form in Yuu's eyes.* I was just beginning to tell myself that he wasn't even worth my time anymore, when something terrible happened.
