I crossed over to earth and made my way to the only place she would be. It was if I could smell her scent. I kicked the door down to find my mom standing in the doorway, "Run!" A man came out, running at me. I shove my mom down. It was if everything slowed down. I grabbed the guy's arm and immediately broke it. Then I grabbed the other one and did the same. He screamed in pain and I laughed. I'm actually enjoying this? It does feel satisfying. I grabbed the knife that was hidden in his pants and shoved back his head. I opened his mouth. "Don't, Ainsley no!"
"Shut up."
"Ainsley stop!" I pried his mouth open and grabbed his tongue. I moved the knife into his mouth and sliced it off. He screamed bloody murder and fell to the ground, shaking. I opened up his shirt and sliced his stomach open. Right when I was about to shove my fingers in there, something hit my back. "Ainsley stop, that isn't John!" I froze. I looked down at the man in front of me. "John called his friend over and told him to run at a girl that came in. Then he left and I don't know where." I clutched the knife tighter. I slammed the knife into the ground next to the guy. He was crying and screaming in pain, holding his face. The other piece of his tongue lay on the floor next to him covered in blood. I stood up, "Mom, I need you to go to Aunt Irene's house. I can't go with, I'm not safe here."
"You aren't leaving anywhere. First, you've been gone for three months and haven't contacted me. Second, you just killed someone."
"He isn't dead." I kicked him and he groaned. "See." I picked up the knife and handed it to my mom, "Take this with you. Might want to wash it off first though. Take it and go to Aunt Irene's. If you don't I will leave and never talk to you in-"
"That won't be necessary Ainsley." I turned to see Adne. "I'm going to compel her to forget all of this. She is also going to think that you're with a distant relative for a while and she won't ever try to contact you."
"Wait what?" Adne grabbed my mom's face, "Who is this person."
"You won't remember anything that has just happened. Ainsley is safe and living with a distant relative for a while. You won't try to contact her or visit her. You're also going to find a new place to stay." My mom's eyes widened and then she blinked a few times. She grabbed her purse and walked out the door, not even paying the slightest attention to us. Adne turned towards me, "She isn't your real mother."
"I know."
"You want to find your real mother?" I let the idea soak in. I wanted to know, but I'd be scared to meet the person who didn't really want me. I looked Adne in the eyes, "Yeah, I kind of do."
"Alright, well she definitely isn't on earth, I would have sensed her. That leaves Heaven, Hell, or Netherland." I nodded. She placed a hand on my shoulder, "I just want you to know that you can't except rainbows and sunshine coming from meeting your mother. She could be like Iris and Karissa's mother, a total bitch. She tried dictating their life by compelling them."
"How? I thought meganaturals couldn't be compelled."
"They can't. That was before they turned into meganaturals." I looked at the body on the floor, "I guess I messed up."
"Trust me, killing one petty human isn't bad. Just imagine killing millions." I looked up at her, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
"It's fine. No need to apologize. It happens when you turn off your humanity." Turning off my humanity. When your humanity is off, you don't have human feelings anymore. You don't feel guilt, mercy, hope, love, happiness, anger, sadness. You can feel bored, annoyed, impatience, just not feelings towards other people.
We stood by the portal. For some reason I couldn't get Jace off my mind. "Who was Jace's last girlfriend?"
"Kristen Lockwood."
