~Hey, guys. I'm legitimately curious about what will happen if I occasionally work on this, just as a story made for giggles and whatnot. Nothing serious. So, let's test it, shall we?~
"Before the fire.. before the attack.. everything was wonderful. Shin.. Seishin.. and I. We were like the three musketeers. We were inseparable."
"Natsumi.. You don't have to," Kokoro told me, taking a step towards me.
I didn't want her to worry. As hateful as she was, Kokoro didn't deserve to worry about me. Because of this, I gave her the best child-like grin I could muster. "It's okay, if I don't tell you now, I'll never manage to bring it up again."
***
"Natsumi! Wake up already! I don't want to miss out on my midnight ice cream!"
I groaned, rolling over onto my side. "Nahh..~ my bed's so cozy, Seishin-Chan... Go without me.."
Without any warning, Seishin pulled the tail of my cocoon, unraveling me out of my warm covers. I ended up hitting the ground with the slam, my head knocking onto the night stand.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, owwieeeeeee...!!!" I rolled around, clutching my head. "Wasn't that a little much, Seishi!? Owww... My head.."
"What's taking so long? Is she seriously not getting up?" Shin asked, walking into the room.
Seishin huffed, crossing her arms as she looked away from me. "Nat refused to negotiate, as always, so I used force instead!"
"Sounds like you," he replied, throwing her over his shoulder. "You always preferred violence over peace."
"Hey! Shin! Let me go! I'll burn you if you don't!" She chuckled, playfully pounding his back with her fists.
I rolled my eyes and giggled. "You guys are going to make us late with your constant flirting, you know! LET'S GOO!!!!"
"Eehh!? We're NOT flirting!" They said in unison, a slight blush painting their cheeks.
***
"Midnight ice cream, right? The same thing you had wanted to introduce me to?" Kokoro asked, dragging me inside an abandoned building to get out of the rain.
I smiled weakly. "Yeah.. that's what we had planned anyways. On our way back into the academy, Seishin had led the way and was the first one inside. Before Shin and I could even enter, a ball of fire hit the roof, blocking the door as it caved in.."
***
Seishin jumped back, barely avoiding the burning piece of the roof. It was blocking the entrance. She had to find another way out.
One after another, I watched the academy was attacked by multiple balls of fire. Shin was only fixated on the door. He did everything in his power to move the piece, but it was on fire. It was too much for him.
"Shin! Nat! Don't worry about me! I'll find a way out!" Seishin shouted, running up the staircase. However, another piece fell as the flames traveled down the railings. The windows had been exposed to too much heat, and every door was blocked by flames. She was trapped.
"Natsumi! What are you doing!? HELP ME GET IN!!" Shin yelled.
I covered my mouth, involuntarily shaking my head. I couldn't do anything. Everyone was running out of the building, but Seishin couldn't escape. Why? Why couldn't she get out!? She was a fire Mage! Why couldn't she control the flames!?
Seishin ran back towards the entrance, watching as Shin tried knocking the chunk of the roof down. "I won't make it, Shin. These aren't normal flames, I can't control them. I can't control someone else's magic. They're much stronger than me. Please! Take Nat and leave!"
"I won't leave you! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't even be here! I'll never forgive myself if you go down with the Academy! Shit!" Shin's hands were black from the burns. The flames were definitely nothing he had ever seen before: they weren't melting flesh.
"Nat!"
I was snapped back to reality, staring at Seishin's pained expression.
"When this place falls, it will explode. It will kill both you and Shin if you don't get away now. Please.. stop him before he gets hurt."
***
"Then what?"
"I knocked Shin out and took him as far from the academy as I could. A lot of people died that day, including Seishin. I've moved on because that's what she wanted, but.. Shin.."
Kokoro hugged me. My eyes widened in shock, feeling as my eyes became watery.
"It's okay.. you don't have to tell me anymore.. I know it hurts.."
I broke. I balled, I shouted, I mourned. It was different.. I never cried about her passing because she would never want that, but... Has Shin been holding it all in more than I have?
"It's not fair! Had it just been a moment earlier.. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE!! SHE DIDN'T DESERVE IT!!!!" I couldn't stop crying. It happened so long ago, but I was still hurting.
It wasn't fair...
~So depressing! ;~; Nahhhh! xD this was one of the drafts I never finished, intending to peel off Natsumi's outer shell. But, for real, my bro Shin irl, one of the better role-players I have ever met! I should really start talking to him again >~> ANYWAYS, hope you enjoyed! Comment if you want more, I guess.. Could become a weekly thing, not like I spend TOO much time on it as I do with other stories. See you! ^u^/~
