Letting Jack In
The week went by very smoothly. We all took Ian to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney world and Jack and Harper have been respecting each other.
Jack has been stepping aside so Harper can get close to Ian, even though Ian has no idea that Harper is his dad. In return Harper has been respecting mine and Jack’s marriage. Actually Jack and Harper have been acting like old friends. They even have been sharing secrets with each other. I keep teasing them telling them they make a cute couple they just give me a sly smile because they know I have no idea what they have been keeping from me.
I on the other hand have been stepping back from everyone. Even though they forgive me, and I forgive them I just feel empty inside. I know the time is nearing of losing Jack. Every day he is getting weaker. His skin color is fading even though he is in the Florida sun. I’m trying to prepare myself for the worse but how do you prepare yourself for something like that?
Charley finds me sitting a lot on the back porch. He doesn’t say a word but he knows how I am feeling and what I am going through. He went through the same thing with Elizabeth that I am going through with Jack. He just sits with me waiting for me to break down. I just can’t bring myself to do it, at least not yet. I am trying so hard not to think about it but it’s hard. Right now it just feels good just to cuddle with him on the patio sofa with him holding me.
“Hello?” Charley’s phone rang and broke me from my thoughts. “No I can talk, just give me a second I will go to my office.” And with that Charley left me.
“Hi beautiful” Jack came outside and sat beside me so I curled up to him.
“Hi my love, where’s Ian?” I asked knowing he was just with him.
“Harper is laying him down for a nap. He was getting crabby. Here I brought you some tea.” He handed me a mug and I took a sip.
“Thank you babe” then he put his arms around me and kissed my head. We both sat there watching the seagulls dive in and out of the ocean trying to catch fish.
Jack and I heard some commotion in this house so we jumped up to see what was going on.
“No we can’t do it” I heard Max say from the other room
“Then tell me what are we going to do because I sure the hell don’t know.” That was my uncle Charley “We promised them we would get it done.”
“That was before Renee came back. How can we leave her in a time like this, she needs us. She needs all of us.” Max we yelling even louder
“What is going on in here” I demanded as soon as I entered the room.
“Nothing sweetheart, it’s nothing to worry about.” Max replied. Then he and Charley went into the kitchen hushing each other. Of course I followed them.
“Bull shit!” they were keeping something from me and I demanded to know what it was. “Tell me now!”
“Before you came we took on a job, we were just sitting back and waiting for the call to let us know when the time was right. Its fine we are going to pass on the job. No big deal.” Max said giving Charley a look to demand for him to agree with him.
“We can’t just tell them no. What are we supposed to say, sorry for all your hard work for getting all the information and getting everyone in one place to make it easy on us but sorry we changed our minds?” Charley always kept a promise. If he said he was going to do something he always came through.
“Okay slow down. What is the job?” I don’t know why I wanted to know I guess a part of me missed that part of my life.
“A sweat shop in California has kidnapped children in Mexico and smuggled them across the border. The boys are working in the sweatshop and the girls are little sex slaves. We have been informed that all the big guys in this operation are all in one place or will be in one place in a day or two. So we need to act right away.” He said
