"Where am I?" I quietly asked, surrounded by darkness. "Is anyone there? Woah!" My winding thoughts were interrupted when I realized I was suspended in the air. I couldn't see or feel anything.
"Welcome, Lillianna," a deep voice said, seeming to come from right next to me.
"It's just Lillie," I said, turning my head and trying to find a face to match the voice. "Could you tell me where I am?"
"You are in the Abyss," the voice said, starting to make things clear for me. "This Abyss sits between your world and another world; a world much different than yours. The anime world. This Abyss is the only thing keeping the worlds separated, and it's starting to fall apart."
A loud rumble came after that sentence to verify that something was, indeed, very wrong with the barrier.
"If the Abyss falls apart, the two worlds will mix," the voice continued.
The anime world mixing with the real world did sound cool as hell, but I had to be mature about this. I was brought to the Abyss for a reason, and I asked why.
"You have a task," the voice explained.
A spotlight came on to my left, lighting up a runway with a box at the end. I fell to the floor, startled. I brushed myself off and made my way to the box. The Abyss was pretty from what I could see. There were walls of rainbow colored water, and candy scented bubbles popped nearby every few seconds. The box was on a stand, shimmering purple. It had 6 key holes.
"You must collect 6 keys," the voice said. "You will be sent to 6 different animes, where you must complete tasks to get the keys."
"Sounds simple enough," I said, running my hands over the box. "Why me, though?"
"Your knowledge for survival and anime brought you here," the voice answered. "But there are many with that knowledge. If you fail, you will simply be replaced."
"Fail?" I asked, only then deciding to worry.
"Yes, fail. Some of these will be life or death challenges. We expect you to come out on top, but if you don't..."
"I got it," I said, looking bravely into the dark. "I can do this! Take me to it!"
"As you wish," the voice said. A bright light started to shine directly in my face. "Collect the keys before it's too late!" The runway and the box started to fade, and I braced myself, sheilding my eyes from the light. I took in a deep breath as my feet found solid ground.
