Yuno smirked at me, the very key to escaping resting in the palm of her hand.
Her diary was solely about Yuki, which meant there was no way for her to get the scoop on anything I'd do to her. I supposed it helped the odds, but I wouldn't use my diary in this fight either. Staring at a screen during combat didn't seem smart.
"Yuno," I said shakily, backing away from her again. "This is just a misunderstanding. Let's just talk this through, nice and slow."
"My diary told me all I need to know," she growled, running her finger across the blade of the large chef's knife. "And now... you're dead."
She immediately swiped the knife at me and I leaned away in a nick of time. I kicked her knee inward, making her stumble back. I turned to run to the window but she grabbed my arm.
"Let me go, you psycho bitch!" I yelled, pulling my arm out of the sleeve of my hoodie and twisting to get out of it. My phone fell and landed on the carpet between us with a thud as Yuno and I clutched the sleeves of the hoodie.
She looked down at it slowly, her eyelids twitching. Things really hit the fan when my phone lit up, "Dead End" displayed on the screen.
Shit.
She looked back up at me, my breath got caught in my throat.
"You're the diary owner," she whispered, licking her chapped lips as an evil grin appeared. She twirled the knife in her fingers. "Even better."
I jerked the hoodie out of her hands and pulled it over her head. She fumbled for a second and tripped. I grabbed my phone and turned to the window to get out. Before I could take one step, she had ripped the hoodie away and grabbed my ankles. I fell to my chest and she dragged me closer to her.
Half groaning from frustration and half screaming in fear, I kicked at her face and eventually got her in the nose before crawling away, looking for the key. She slashed my calf, making me turn over in pain. Jumping on my stomach, Yuno stabbed at my head. I turned my head away and she barely missed. I then spotted the key tucked into the waistband of her skirt. I reached for it but she slid the blade across my forearm.
Bleeding onto the floor, myself, and her, I grabbed her wrist right as she lunged for my chest. We strained there, angrily staring into each other's faces. Her red eyes bulged out at me, her pupils a scary small size. Her bloody nose gushed and was all down the front of her shirt now, but it didn't keep her from smiling, the blood running onto her lips and teeth.
The knife was knocked away and she attempted to strangle me. Turning purple, I grabbed one of her messy ponytails and pulled her off of me. Kicking her away, I ran back to the window. I tried to no avail to open it. I looked back and saw her charging at me. She tackled me, throwing us both through the weak, old glass.
With the breath knocked out of me, I struggled to my feet, grabbing a thin piece of glass. Swiping at her to keep her away, I caught my breath again.
Yuno's phone lit up with a new entry.
"Yuki will be back soon," she gasped. "I have to finish this quickly. Hold still." She glared at me as she quickly picked up tiny shards of glass and threw them at my eyes. I brought my hands to my face, trying to protect myself. The sides of my face and the backs of my hands became scratched and bloody. She nailed a punch to my gut, making me double over. I saw a thick stick and picked it up before she could throw another punch and started swatting at her face with it in attempt to keep her away. Her face became equally injured as the tough bark of the stick scraped across her cheeks.
She grabbed my wrist and we fought for control.
In all the wrestling, my phone tumbled out of my pocket and onto the lawn. Yuno shoved me to the side, hard. I landed with an "oof" and Yuno grabbed my phone before I could even look up, throwing it against the side of the house.
The screen completely shattered.
With a sudden pain strong enough to paralyze, I felt as though I couldn't breathe. I stared down as a spinning void appeared on my chest. Yuno smiled back at me and watched as my body started being sucked away into the black hole.
Yuki appeared at the broken window, looking horrified at the scene.
"Yuki!" Yuno called, lovingly looking at him and bringing her hands to her face in an innocent yet psycho manner. She smeared the blood all over her cheeks and neck, staring into Yuki's eyes. "She won't be in our way anymore."
She continued pouring her love out to him, unaware that I was crawling towards her. I used all my strength, knowing I had mere seconds before I died. Everything started to go dark as I reached a pale hand to her waistband. Barely grasping the key, I hugged it to my chest as it all went black.
* * *
I woke up gasping for air and groaning in pain, feeling like a rock was in my chest. The void started dispersing and my physical form was going back to normal.
Looking at the key, I recognized Deus's skull as the handle. Fighting through cramps and bruises, I walked to the box and pushed the key in.
Not yet wanting to face the last and most difficult anime, I sat next to the box, more upset over Yuno hating me than almost dying.
