Friend; a person who helps you or supports something you do; a person who is not an enemy and can be trusted.

One of the advantage of having a friend is that you have someone to talk to if you're having a hard time or feeling happy about something, that is if that friend is a true friend. One disadvantage is that if you can hardly trust anyone, chances are, your friends are probably going to leave you because they've had enough of you and have gotten really sick of you, and that is if that friend isn't a true friend.

While a bestfriend, they're the ones who stayed with you through your ups and downs and would never leave your side no matter how mad they are at you for something and would immediately rush to your side if something's happened to you. If they leave you or ignore you without a goodbye or even an explanation, they are the shittiest person on Earth if they ever did something like that to you. You should pretend like nothing ever happened between you two since it was so easy for them to go and ignore you the next time you meet.

And as I continue to whine about having only a few friends to my sister, she'd always say that, growing up, you don't really need friends because they'll only be there whenever you're happy and leave you as soon as you start showing signs of sadness. But my brothers show different side of having friends as they kept on sharing stories about them with their friends, it felt like they were always having fun. And I want to have a friendship like my brothers because they're always having fun when they're with their friends but my sister's side of having friends are kind of true since some of my friends has left me before.

So, a friend, do we really need one? I've asked myself this question a few times before and I still can't think whether we need one or not.
