"Wow, you woke up quickly," Oliver said, walking toward him.
Walter ran his hand through his black hair with a jokingly smile. "Well, I happen to be a light sleeper."
Oliver's serious face suddenly appeared.
"You weren't asleep. You were unconscious." Oliver pushed Walter's head back, and Walter fell backwards onto the hay stack. "You lost a lot of blood, so lay down to get sufficient amount of blood flowing through your head."
"Whaaat. Your eyes are blue. It was just violet a second ago," Walter said looking up at him.
Oliver turned away.
"That wasn't... me, Mr. Green," Oliver said quietly, then he looked at me. "I'm going to bed, servant. Please mind the house, and wake me when my father and other servants arrive. I'm the first door on the second floor to the left. Don't let anyone go into the Servants' Quarters, even the other servants."-he threw me the keys for the servants' quarters-"I'll figure something out to help Mr. Green tomorrow."
I nodded and he left.
"And why did you help me?" Walter said, staring at the wooden ceiling.
I sat on an old rusting chair across the room. "Because I wanted to."
"You know...I'm a highly respected man in Central City, so if anyone finds out what I did, all of my books I wrote will cease to be credible, and I'd be sitting in a cell waiting to be executed."
"Oliver knows what you did and who you are."
"I mean of course. That's why he placed me in this stinkin' room. But, I got to hand it to him. He's thinking of many possibilities even right now to help me escape persecution."
"How do you know?"
"I don't. I'm just guessing." Walter laughed quietly. "Maybe he's helping me because he's a fan of my books."
I scoffed. "You're stupid."
"Not stupid. It's more like I'm hopeful," he said. "If he doesn't help me, I could just leave any time through the back."
"I need that horse."
"What? Didn't you say that you aren't going to come with me?"
"I did, but I'm still trying to escape since I ended coming to the house of the masters I was suppose to be delivered at."
He snickered.
"That's unlucky of you. But, we could always just share the horse, and you can come along with me." He raised his eyebrows with a smile.
"No. I'll try stealing Oliver's horse instead."
"Can I just kidnap you or something?" he said, with a disappointed tone. "I really need a servant."
"Are you joking? No way am I going to help a murderer."
He turned his head and looked at me with a serious expression. "Don't you dare call me a murderer. I didn't kill anyone."
I stood up. "The Deliverer of the Servants died because you hired someone to stop the Servant Wagon. Don't make yourself sound innocent! He even said he had a family! You're a murderer and a criminal!"
He paused as he looked at me. It was as if he was reading my facial expression, but then again I was wearing my mask. "Maybe I am one because I didn't stop Ronny..."
He turned his entire body and faced the wall. There was a long silence.
"What can I do for you to agree to pretend to be my sister and spy for me?" he asked quietly.
I remember violet-eyed Oliver asked what he had to offer to me for me to help him.
"Depends on what you have to offer to me."
"Let's see. By pretending to be my younger sister, you won't be treated as a servant. You'll be free to act as whatever. We're both benefitting. That's what I offer."
"Will I have to hurt anyone?"
"It's your choice if you want to hurt people directly, but overall, you'll be helping thousands of people."
Thousands...
I remember all of the times I ran away from my masters. All of the times, I was captured by the Guards or Knights because I was alone. Even when I took off my mask, I still looked like a servant. It was always either my clothes, the way I spoke, my mannerisms, or the numbers on my wrist. I was getting better and better at acting like a normal person.
"Fine, but I'm afraid I won't be doing a good job though, Walter."
He sat up quickly. "What? So you're agreeing? You're going to help me out?!"
I nodded smiling behind my mask, because he looked so cheerful.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He held on his head and laid back down quickly with a laughter. "Damn it... I got a bit light headed. I'm going to take a quick nap, then we'll leave no matter what when the sun rises."
"Okay."
"I won't let you stay here and be a servant forever... Got it?"
"Yep."
He closed his eyes.
"I hate servitude," he said.
