POV: Akkey (Remember? He's Maisie's servant)

I smelled the scent of burning wood, but simply turned to the other side of my bed and continued sleeping.

"Oliver! Help!" screamed Maisie.

There was a loud bang.

"I'm here!" Oliver yelled back.

I woke up. Without a second thought, I jumped out of my bed, snatched my pistol on the way out of the Servant' Quarters. My little brother came out after me. The loud poundings continued to occur. There was no enemy in view except for the fire that surround us everywhere. The smoke was thick and breathing burned my throat. I covered my mouth and nostrils with the sleeve of my green cloak.

"Get Mr. Towers out of here," I told my brother. "He hates fires. I'm getting Maisie and Oliver."

He nodded and hurried away. I ran up the stairs and saw Oliver in front of Maisie's door. I could still hear Maisie's desperate cry on the other side of the door.

"Let go of me!" I heard her say.

My chest tightened. Someone else was in the room with her. Oliver hit his body against the door.

"Maisie. Maisie! Maisie! I'm coming!" said Oliver with his voice shaking. His eyes were strange. One eye was violet and the other was his normal blue.

I haven't seen that since we were children.

Oliver continuously tried slamming his body against the locked door. I ran as hard as I could and rammed my shoulder against the door at the same time with him. The hinges came off, and the door fell over with a loud thump.

There was a man dragging Maisie toward the direction of her opened window. I pulled out my pistol and shot at his arm. He screamed out in pain and stumble backwards, falling on the floor with his head hitting against the wall. Maisie was released and fell to her knees. Oliver went beside her to hold her up.

I stormed up to the man who held onto his bloody arm, and I aimed at his head without a second thought. He scooted backwards trying to fumbled for his knife in his pocket. He held it up in front of him, trembling.

"G-get away from me!"

I kicked the knife out of his coarse hands and stepped on his wrist.

"You shouldn't have come here..." I whispered. I pressed my feet harder onto his wrist glaring steadily into his muddy brown eyes. I heard his wrist bone crack, and he screamed.

Oliver was leading Maisie out the door to escape the burning house. My finger squeezed on the trigger as the man shut his eyes tightly.

"Akkey, don't!" Maisie said behind me. "Please don't kill him."

My shoulders became less tense. I let out a quiet sigh. Her soft voice was all I needed to calm me down.

I glanced back at her and saw how she looked at me with those clear, blue eyes. What was that expression she was giving me? Fear?

"Do what's necessary, Servant," said Oliver. He had a calm smile on his face. Both of his eyes were violet completely. They left the room.
