POV CHANGE: Akkey
"We've been searching for Oliver for a long time already, Father. We should go inside somewhere," Maisie said. "We're going to get a cold in this weather and hour."
Mr. Towers ignored her. He was still turning his head back and forth frantically while sitting on his horse beside Maisie's horse. We were off road, in the forest area, still in the Eastern Region. Earlier today, the house burnt down, and the perpetuator was arrested by the Guards. However, ever since Mr. Towers became conscious, he wouldn't stop looking for Oliver who disappeared.
And it was already night.
"Oliver! Oliver! Son!" Mr. Towers called out into the night. "Where are you!?"
"Father, please give it a rest," Maisie said.
"Oliver!" Mr. Towers yelled out.
Maisie's eyes watered.
"Oliver, please come back to us!" Mr. Tower said.
"It's my fault, okay?!" Maisie said.
He turned to Maisie for the first time since he realized Oliver left them. His nose and eyes were light pink. It was strange to see a large, muscular man look as if he was about to break down and cry.
"Why'd you say that? Did you say anything to him, dear?" Mr. Towers asked.
Maisie didn't answer any of those questions at all. She was just wiping her tears away.
"Maisie, please...tell me," Mr. Tower said.
"Oliver was...out of control again, Father," Maisie said, "I just told him that I wanted him to act normal. I wanted him to keep himself from turning his eyes violet. I just wanted him to be normal!"
He shut his eyes tightly almost as if he was frustrated and held onto Maisie's hand.
"Dear...Child...Maisie, Oliver is a special child... He isn't strong enough to control the ungovernable rage inside of him. Please accept him the way he is. He loves you just as I do. No, to be truthful. I believe more so than me or the world itself, so I understand why it must've destroyed him when you said those things to him," Mr. Towers said.
He smiled at her weakly. "Okay, honey?" he said.
"Okay, Father," she said, softly.
"I suppose, I do need to stop calling out for him. He's a man now, capable of taking care of himself!"
He looked at me and my brother, sharply. We were a bit further away back from him.
"And you servants, get us some wood and some food. We're setting up camp here," Mr. Towers said, with a sudden change of tone.
"Wait, out here?" Maisie said. "What if bandits come? Can't we go to an inn?"
"Don't worry, child," he said, with a now softer tone, "I'm here, and our...ehm...servants are here to protect you. Besides, we have nothing left to be stolen. We have no money, no home, nothing except our horses and ourselves. Tomorrow, we'll go to Central City to live with your mother's sister."
My little brother sat behind me on the horse since the Towers have only three horses in total. A while back, he told me that he wanted a name too after I got mines from Maisie years ago. His name is Cavil, which he claimed is named after a famous mountain that separates the Western Region and the Forbidden Land.
"Cavil, I'll gather food," I said. "You gather wood."
I was about to get off the horse, but Cavil held onto my arm.
"No, you take the horse," Cavil said. "Wood is everywhere. Food is not."
He got off the horse and went into the wood. As I was about to ride away, Maisie stopped me on her horse.
"Akkey, please come back safe," she whispered so her father won't hear.
I nodded and rode away.
There probably won't be that many animals out at this hour, so fruits and nuts would be fine. The only two weapons I had were a small knife, and a gun with few, precious bullets. I gave the rest of the pistols to Mr. Towers since all of his melted in the fire.
I rode around slowly for around five minutes before I heard rustling in the bushes.
I halted the horse and took out my knife. If it's a human, I won't attack if they don't attack. If it's animal, it's simply food.
I held my breath.
The rustling got louder and louder until a sudden small bright light came out of the bushes. It was the size of my index finger and had wings like moth.
I sighed and placed down the knife by my side.
"An oversized firefly," I said quietly to myself. "That's disgusting."
I got off the horse and went toward the bush. With the help of the bright light, I realized that it was a berry bush, so I started picking at it and putting the fruit in my horse's leather sack.
The same bug flew in front of my face and started whacking itself at me.
"Get away from me," I hissed at it. I backed up while waving my hand back and forth to shoo it.
"T-Take that back! I-I'm not disgusting!" said a voice.
I fell backwards because of a rock on the ground behind me and also from the shock. The firefly turns out to be no firefly.
It was a small person with wings, a...demi-human?
A/N: Say hello to the first active demi-human that appeared in my story! :D
