Sorry for the long update time, I had AP exams and finals and lots of school stuff to worry about, not to mention getting ready for vacation (one which I am currently on) so every chance at free time that I get I plan to write xx again sorry for the inactivity. This is unedited, but I just really wanted to post already.
Also important side not- I changed Ellis's last name to LeBlanc. I felt like his current name sounded too close to the university name.
____________
We laughed after that humorous exchange, Ellis once again going back to his casual self. He offered to buy me a cup of coffee to which I refused, but he ignored my attempts and went on with buying me one anyway. I thanked him probably more than five times, to which he made fun of me and said it's just a cup of coffee. It may have been just coffee, but I always appreciated any small acts of kindness people had done for me.
While sipping his coffee, his eyes lurked over my figure. It made me uncomfortable.
"What?" I asked, squirming.
"You look nice." He placed his empty coffee cup on the table, not looking me in the eyes.
I felt my face redden but I tried to ignore it. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," he smiled gently. "So do you want to start?"
"Start what?" I had completely forgotten the initial reason for coming here. "Oh, right. My bad."
He sighed accusingly. "Not very professional, are we?"
I shook my head, but cracked a smile at his reference to earlier. I retrieved the notebook from my backpack and pulled up the recording app on my phone.
After getting myself ready, I began my set of questions that I prepared in advance.
"What's your name, age, and occupation?"
"Wow that's boring," he said. I widened my eyes at him as a warning, jokingly of course, but he sighed and continued. "My name is Ellis LeBlanc, I am 18 years old, and I'm a first year student at Vilora university majoring in psychology who doubles as an angelic singer."
I bit my lip to stifle my laugh, but continued.
"How long have you been singing?"
"I've been singing all my life, but I started doing it publicly in high school. My friends and I formed a band and we played gigs at local places such as this one plus the city festivals and events. We're still around, but they've all got jobs and studying to do so it's mostly been me doing solo performances along with Jasper."
"Have you taken any formal training?"
"For singing, no. But I did for piano and guitar. I did both at a young age but stopped taking lessons when I entered high school. I taught
myself from then on, but the basics were all learned.""Is it difficult to get recognized in the music industry?"
"Well why do you think we're here right now?" He murmured and I breathed a laughed. He paused and continued. "Definitely. You could try your best, practice nonstop, write lyrics with meaning, and have the raw passion of creating music but when no one knows who you are it becomes hard to get anywhere. I'm just trying to get to that step of getting my name known and share what I love to do with others."
"Does living in Boston help you get your name out?"
"Yes and no. Living here is definitely better than a tiny town, but it's no New York City. There's hundreds of other guys out there just like me and we all want the same dream."
