Today's was a friend of mine's birthday. Okay, not just my friend, but Stiles' too. Heather. We had known her since we had been three, because our moms had been best friends when they had been our age. We had literally used to take bubble baths together.
I walked with Scott and Stiles, and Scott was being super quiet and giving a look. "What?" I asked.
"What do you mean, what?" Scott asked.
"She means 'what', and you know what," Stiles said, getting at what I meant.
"'What' what?"
"That look you were giving," I said.
"I didn't give a look," Scott denied.
"There was a distinct look, Scott," Stiles said.
"What look?"
"The look that says the last thing that you feel like doing right now is going to a party."
"It's not that. It's just seems a little weird going to different high school's party."
"What--d--you--oh," Stiles stuttered. "Oh, God, one drink. All right, you'll be fine. We went to nursery school with this girl, okay? She promised to introduce us to all of her friends. So, tonight, no Allison, no Lydia. Tonight, we're moving on."
"You're right."
"That's right, I'm right."
They stopped walking, making me stop behind them, and they turned to face each other. "Moving on," Scott agreed.
"Onward, and upward."
"Let's do this."
"That's what I'm talking about. No look me."
"Okay."
They high fived each other in front of each other first, then downward, and I rolled my eyes at them with a smile on my face, walking around them and up the steps to Heather's house, then inside.
I saw her with her best friend, but I forgot her name at the moment--wait, wasn't it Danielle?--and Heather smiled at me. "Stacie! Where's Stiles?" I looked behind me as he walked in with Scott, and her smile widened. "Stiles! Hi!"
"Hey!" Stiles cheered. She walked closer. "There's the birthday girl--"
Heather stopped him by kissing him, and my mouth fell open as I watched them. That had never happened before. I wasn't the only one that had my mouth open. Scott did. Heather pulled away. "So glad that you made it."
"Me too."
"Come downstairs with me and help me pick out a bottle of wine."
"Yes."
Stiles and Heather walked away and into the basement/wine cellar that we had used to play in as kids, and Scott walked past me to Danielle. "Hey."
Danielle looked him up and down, shaking her head and walking away, and he looked offended while I tried not to laugh. When his phone buzzed and he went to the door, I shrugged and went to go try the punch.
Stiles was running out of the wine cellar, knocking into me. "Woah, chill, dude," I laughed while I regained balance.
"Sorry, gotta go!" he called while he ran upstairs.
"Okay?" I asked of no one, turning back to the drink station.
It was a very boring party.
Stiles, Scott, Derek, Allison, Lydia and I were all in the same room, looking at the matching bruises on Allison and Lydia's arms. "I don't see anything," Derek said.
