As humans we are taught to expect. We work expecting pay. We tell a joke expecting the listener to laugh at what we said. We do great things expecting applause. And we help others with the hope that when we need help they will help us. But is this the way that God has called us to live? Has he called us to do his work with conditions? has he called us to only help those that we know are capable of helping us back? Are we called to only give to those who are capable of giving back to us? Or to only lend money to those who have the means to pay us back?
The moment that we have become a part of Christ's fold we must accept that things are going to change. We cannot operate the way we used to and we ought not to expect things the way we used to. We instead ought to strive each day to become like him. Living a life of genuine benevolence not expecting a mite in return. we must become so selfless that we are willing to give to those who have nothing to give back, and lend money to those who have no means to pay us back. Becoming a follower of Christ means putting off the old, selfish, and carnal man that always seeks something in return. That thinks of himself first before he thinks of the need of the other person. This transition from the wrethched dinner to the elect of God takes time, prayer but most importantly it takes Jesus. This is not something we can do on our own but it is something that is required of us as followers of Christ. We have no idea what will happen tomorrow or the day after that so let's start to today let's use what we have and work with where we are currently. Where there's a need let's give bountifully, where there is sorrow let us be a light, where there is ignorance let's bring knowledge, and where there is darkness let's introduce Jesus.
Jesus did not come to save the saved but to save those who needed saving he mingled with those that knew nothing of him and brought them to the fold to worship him. Our purpose as followers is no different. We ought to mingle with those who know not God and introduce him to them. We ought to be a light to those who need it, not just mingling with believers and preaching to our fellow believers. But let us go out and preach the gospel to the whole world both unbelievers and believers. Let us not fail to spread the message of Jesus Christ. That is our work and there is much ground to cover.
