II - Far Away

(F/n)'s P.O.V

When I woke up today, I finally realized how far my actual friends are. Riku's been locked away in the world of darkness while Sora has yet to wake up, and Kairi is spending her days in Destiny Islands. I hope I can see them soon.

I went to the usual spot. They were all there, Hayner, Pence, Olette... but no sign of Roxas.

"Where's Roxas?" I asked.

"Went to get some sea salt ice cream. It's gonna be your first day trying one!" Pence smiled. I went into a daze. "(F/n)?" Pence asked, concerned.

"Oh, sorry. I just keep thinking about my friends from back home." I said shyly.

"Oh, that's fine. Say, where did you come from to get to Twilight Town, anyway?" Olette asked.

"Destiny Islands."

"Seriously?!" she jumped. "Is it true?"

"What?"

"The star-shaped fruit. Is it true that they grow there?" she questioned anxiously.

"The Paopu fruit? Yeah." I answered with a shrug.

"It's been my DREAM to share one with you guys. I want to feel like no matter what, my friends will always be there." she babbled.

"That's corny." Hayner put in.

"Is NOT!" Olette said, turning her head at him.

"It's not corny, but it doesn't sound right, either." I cut in. They all turned to look at me. "No one needs a fruit to feel like their friends will be there no matter what. If you already have a strong relationship, why need one?" I shrugged.

"Deep words." Pence said, speechless.

"I- I mean... I know how it feels to want to share one! Don't listen to what I say!" I said, rubbing my neck in embarrassment from what I just said.

Finally, Roxas came in with the ice cream, "Sorry I took so long, guys." he said.

"All right! Ice cream!" Hayner said, jumping out of his seat to get one.

"Wait! Let's witness this miraculous moment when (Nickname) tried sea salt ice cream for the first time!" Pence exclaimed excitedly, "I'll go get the camera!" he rushed to the camera and back, at the ready to snap the photo. "Whenever you're ready!" he held a thumbs up.

"O... kay?" I said nervously. I took a bite out of the ice cream, and liked it. "Hm... it's sweet... but salty." I described.

"She likes it!" Olette declared. Everyone cheered and I laughed.

"And I got the perfect picture!" Pence added. We all leaned in to look at it. It was at the exact moment when I took a bite out of the ice cream.

"She looks kinda cute in the picture." Roxas admitted. Hayner nudged him. "Hey!" he shouted at Hayner. I chuckled and continued to gaze at the photo.

"Can I keep it?" I asked. Pence told me to go ahead and gave me the picture.

"Okay, guys! Ten minutes in our houses and we meet up at the clock tower, sea salt ice cream on me!" Hayner said. so that's how it was. I went home and for the entire ten minutes spent staring at at he photo. Every angle I looked, it was the same.

How on Earth do I look cute to him?

Later that day, I met up with them at the clock tower. As Hayner said, he bought the ice cream. I munched on it, savoring the sweet salty taste of the ice cream.

"I like hanging out with you guys," I said, looking out at the sunset. An idea occurred to me then, "I don't remember when I heard this... but do you guys know why the sun sets red?" I asked, trying to form out the words in my brain. They shook their heads, which left me to explain, "Because out of all the colors, red travels the farthest than all of them." I said, maybe still in a daze.

"I remember I heard that somewhere, too." Roxas added. I may have triggered a memory on accident.

"Maybe my mom's the one who told me." I shrugged. I looked back at them, "Well, now you guys know!" I smiled.

By the time I finished my ice cream, everyone was getting ready to leave.

"You're a slow eater, (Nickname)." Pence stated.

"Hey, it's not my fault I wanna savor the moment. Besides, at least I'm not as slow as Roxas." I referred to Roxas, who was still three quarters in his ice cream. We all just laughed. I looked at my popsicle stick, "Winner?" I read from the stick.

"Lucky!" Olette exclaimed.

"If you show that stick to the lady who sells sea salt ice cream, you'll get two sea salt ice creams for free." Hayner explained.

"Really? Well, I guess I better save it for later use then." I smiled.

"I have that one too!" Roxas said with glee as soon as he finished his ice cream.

"That's awesome! Our lovebirds here have the same popsicle stick!" Pence winked.

I started blushing from embarrassment, "L-lovebirds?! Where did that come from? I didn't sign up for this!" I raged. Everyone laughed at my comment while I just grinned.

I remember thinking, hanging out with these guys is great.

It became night and we went walking around Twilight Town after that, just chatting along about stuff at school, a school that I might have to enter. Things like that.

I decided to be the matchmaker for a bit, "Hayner, didn't you want to take Olette somewhere?" I blurted out.

"What?" he asked. I quickly winked at him to signal him that this was his chance to talk with Olette alone. "O-oh! Right!" he looked at Olette, "C'mon Olette! I have the perfect place." he said, running in a different direction. "Hurry up!" he called.

"Um, okay!" Olette turned to look at us, "See you guys later!" she waved and went sprinting after Hayner. We waved at Olette as we saw her disappear into the houses of Twilight Town.

"I should be going too," said Pence after a moment of silence, "it's pretty late past my curfew." he added, "Bye!" he waved. So there you have it, Roxas and I had a whole night to ourselves in the darkness. I had no idea what to say.
