It was a hot day in April

When I first saw you

Dancing under the sun

A grin so impossibly big on your face

I was introduced as a substitute

Because you liked my best friend

So I never stood a chance

But as the days grew colder

I slowly became happy with my role

Because I got to meet you

Because I got to have you in my life

All those silly inside jokes

And the pranks pulled on teachers

The days spent eating cake

The nights spent under the stars

Every time we meet

I always saw a smile

A smile that could brighten,

So one day when that smile disappeared

And you covered your ears

Talking about the voices

Whispering bad things in your ears

I was worried

But you were soon hospitalized

Saying it was a one time thing

Soon everyday Anthony and I visited

He talked to you

Hours on end

As I sat in the background

But that one day

You got out and we had a day to ourselves

We went shopping for games

And played them for hours on end

It was one of the best memories

But as you fell asleep
