Connor's POV

     I don't know what I was thinking.

"You weren't thinking. That's the problem. You marked our mate and now you're cheating on her. Do you have any idea how much pain she is in?" Ocean was chewing me out.

"No. You marked our mate. I wanted to reject her. Then if I slept with someone else, she wouldn't have felt it," I argued back.

"So you would rather our mate be in constant excruciating pain, then to build a relationship with her to make her happy?" he challenged me.

     That stopped me.

     "Excruciating?"

"Yes, excruciating. Her heart feels as if it is about to burst. It just might. There are physical ramifications for mates that are unfaithful. But they only affect the mate that is being cheated on. They are meant to serve as a deterrent. The mate that is cheating will either be the cause of their mate's pain and stop, or the mate that is being cheated on will die as a mercy to them. They won't have to be in pain and can go on to Heaven to be in peace," he explained sounding like he was about to cry.

I just shut down. I had done that. I had caused my mate pain. But I didn't even want her.

"It doesn't matter if you don't want her. We claimed her. She is our mate, and you are going to stop sleeping around or so help me I will take over permanently," he threatened.

Wolves could overcome their human counterparts in emergencies or moments of extreme emotion. If the human was a psycho, then the wolf could take over forever and push the human to the back of their mind until their time came to die.

I let that sink in as I made my way home. I had no choice. I had to keep my mate.

But first, I had to get her to forgive me. If I knew anything about my mate, it was her ability to hold a grudge. Her anger was so hot, she could turn rock into lava.

     I was in for hell.

Rain's POV

     I was burning.

My heart felt like it was engulfed in the flames from hell, but I knew what was. He was with one of them again.

The heat rose some more and I felt like I would really die this time. He must being going all the way with one of those bitches. They all know that he has a mate, but obviously they don't care.

But it was okay. I would get through this and then it would be time to plan.

     Revenge.

Against her. Against him. And they would never see it coming. Hers would take a bit longer though. To make it extra special. There is nothing worse than a vindictive mermaid.

As I chugged a gallon of water, the heat decreased slightly, but then picked up again.

The water was the answer. It was always the answer. I had to get to the water.

Dragging myself from my bed, I crossed paths with Carry.

"Rain? What's wrong honey?" she asked me frantically. I must have looked worst than I thought.

"Your son is what's wrong," I managed to croak out through my parched lips. The heat was consuming me. "He's with someone else." One lonely tear slid down my cheek. It was the color of the purest gold.
