Rain's POV

It had been a month that since I officially became the luna. When I woke up, I went downstairs to make brunch for Connor, who was in a meeting that I was not invited to, but I was then distracted by something.

I could hear crying just outside the main door. After I opened it, I saw a little blue bundle laying in a basket.

His hair was a honey blonde and his eyes were as blue as the sea. Looking at this baby was like staring into the heart of the ocean. Something was calling out to me. Begging me to take him into my arms and never let him go.

I instantly knew that he was a mer. I don't know how, but I was sure. Of course, we probably couldn't tell until he was sixteen, like me, but I knew deep down inside that he was like me.

And now he was mine.

I picked him up and sang to him.

"Hush, stop your crying,
it'll be alright,
come take my hand,
hold it tight,

I will protect you,
from all around you,
I will be here,
don't you cry,

for one so small,
you seem so strong,
my arms will hold you,
keep you safe and warm,

this bond between us,
can't be broken,
I will be here,
don't you cry,

'cause you'll be in my arms,
yes, you'll be in my arms,
from this day on,
now and forever more,

you'll be in my heart,
no matter what they say,
you'll be here in my heart
always, always," I sang the song that my mother used to sing to me when I wouldn't stop crying.

The crying stopped. His eyes met mine and there was a spark between us. We were now bonded. Every mermaid had a bond with their children, so that they could tell if they were in trouble or if they were in pain.

No one could take him from me now. Pulling him close, I climbed back up the stairs to Connor's office. He was having a meeting with Robby and a few more pack members.

I opened the door using my free hand and walked toward my mate. The room started growling at the unknown scent, but I hissed at them, immediately making them stop.

No one threatened my baby.

Connor, seeing what was in my arms, dismissed everyone and walked toward me. I hissed at him too. He put his hands up to say that he didn't mean any harm.

I let him come closer, but when he was about two feet away, I made him stop. I still didn't know how he would react. I turned the baby to show Connor to him and he started to cry again.

I rocked him and bounced him in my arms to calm him down. Kissing his forehead, I looked at Connor to gauge his reaction. He was shocked to say the least, that I had a baby in my arms, but he didn't look mad.

"Where did you get him?" he asked softly, trying not to startle the baby again.

"I found him outside the front door to the pack house," I explained.

"Well, we have to take him to the humans. He's not a wolf. He can't stay here," he said walking over to the phone. I hissed and clutched at my baby. Connor stopped walking to look at me like I had grown two heads. "You know we can't keep him. He isn't one of us."

"He is mine! He is like me! You will not take him from me!" I hissed as I backed away from him, shielding my new child.

If I thought that Connor was shocked before, telling him that the baby was a mer like me made him almost stroke out. If he wasn't a wolf, he might have been dead.

He had a blank look on his face, so I knew what he was doing. He was trying to get my baby. Well two could play at that game. I contacted Carry and told her that her son was trying to get rid of her new grandson. She was in that office in front of me faster than I could swim.

She looked at my little bundle of joy and her eyes filled with happy tears. Snapping her head around to glare at Connor, she growled out through gritted teeth, "Why were you trying to hurt my grandbaby?"

"He cannot stay. I accepted that Rain was a mermaid. I have made a lot of sacrifices. This is a wolf pack, not a school of fish!" he shouted. As soon as I heard that I knew. Knew that he never really meant anything he had said about truly loving me. If he had loved me, he wouldn't have thought of being with me as a sacrifice.

"Fine. He won't stay," I told him. He looked relieved that I was seeing things his way.

"What? No! Rain, please we can talk about this honey. He is too sweet to give away," Carry gushed out before I could speak again.

"No. He's not staying here. But neither am I. You don't have to make anymore sacrifices Connor. Be with a wolf. Make her your Luna. But know this. If you think you will be happy knowing that your wolf is miserable, go ahead and mark her. If you think you will be happy not shifting for the rest of your life, go ahead and mate her. If you think you will be happy knowing that you threw away the chance to love and be loved by the mate that was made for you, go ahead and replace me with her. I hope you find that happiness. I truly do. But I know for a fact that I will find my happiness without you," I said, turning away from the heartless bastard.

I ran to my house that I never really moved out of. Deep down inside I knew that he hadn't accepted me.

Keeping the little one close to my heart, I hurriedly packed a bag for myself and called my mother.

I may still have some issues with my parents, but since they had been informed of my secret, they were making an effort. Right now they were the only ones I could trust.

She was surprised to say the least, but was excited for a chance to earn my trust back. Having a grandson wasn't that bad either. I told her to get some baby things, since my old stuff was all for girls. I don't think that little one would like being dressed like a girl.

He needed a name. I couldn't think of anything right now, but maybe my mom would have some ideas.

I couldn't believe that I was a mother, but there was no mistaking the bundle in my arms for groceries.

I took a moving box from my house and filled it with padding and other precautions and strapped it where it wouldn't budge in the floorboard of the back seat of my car. He would have to ride in that until I got an actual car seat for him. I couldn't drive with him in my lap so that would have to work.

Taking one last look around the house, I made sure that I had everything we would need. I got in my car and drove away without ever looking back.

I'm sure Carry told Robby what happened by now, so I told him that I was fine and that I would tell him where to meet us after Connor questioned him and he convinced him that he didn't know. He was excited to meet his nephew.

He didn't cry at all on the drive home. I stopped every few hours to get him some milk and things. I couldn't risk him being hungry.

This little being was quickly becoming my entire world.

I didn't have a mate anymore, but the bond would still be intact until we officially rejected it.

I didn't care. I had a son to raise now. And no mangy wolf was going to get in my way.
