She leaned back, her spine pressed on the wooden cabinet, arms crossed on her chest and grumbled. It has not been long since James dropped her home. But it was not for that reason that her mood went sour. Her whole day was of bliss not until her fairy godfather started talking.

She told him about her date with the guy she always like; the reason why the fairy is with her. At first, their conversation went smoothly but went out of line. He mocked the guy, bringing a frown to her face.

“What’s good about it anyway?” he said with a smirk. His eyes, the color of almond, showed arrogance. With a finely chiseled face like his, it’s hard not to drool but somehow she succeeded. “He just takes you to dates but did he ever talk about having a relationship?”

“What do you know about relationships, Snyde?” she snapped. “Or have you ever been in one to talk like that.”

The fairy did not respond instead he shrugged. He turned his back on her and began fumbling her pile of stuff animals. Even in normal human clothes, he managed to make it look beyond average. His caramel-colored hair was in a mess but he still pulled it off as if it’s meant to be that way. Silence enveloped them and took a while before she spoke again.

“Have you?”

Snyde pivoted and stared confused at Beige. She was just gazing at him, silent, waiting for his response, that is, if he would. He knows the answer actually, but he chose to keep his mouth shut. She raised a brow when he did not speak.

“Have you been in love?” He refused to reply and look away from her. Beige blinked a few times before a smile crept her face. Never had he stayed silent in any argument like this, he always win. “You are now, aren’t you? Who is she?”

“Why do you care anyway?”

“Well,” she said pouting, “you know a lot about my magical love life yet I know nothing about yours. You might want to share. Just a little about the girl will do.”

He sat on the window seat, eyes fixated at nothingness. “Fairies aren’t allowed to fall for a human. No one dared to at least.” He looked up at Beige and her eagerness to hear about this made him smirk. “We’ll be banned from our world and won’t be able to use any more magic.”

“Why are you telling me that?” It took some time before realization dawned to her. “You’re in love with a human! Do I know her?”

“Of course you do.”

But the pleased look on Beige’s face faded away. What he told her sunk in and she felt sorry. She didn’t say anything about it though. Snyde doesn’t want to be pitied. If she’d show even the slightest of it, he’d begin ranting about things she doesn’t understand.

“She doesn’t know, does she?” she asked.

“She doesn’t have to.”

Beige shook her head in disagreement, her bangs falling to her eyes. Despite the fact that they are not allowed to love any human, he should tell her his feelings. Let her know that she’s lucky enough to be liked by someone.

“Does it really matter?”

“Of course it does. She might feel the same way about you.”

“She’s stupid and won’t get it.”

She threw him a dirty look and placed her hands on her hips. “You’re saying you love her but you just called her stupid. If you don’t want to, might as well forget about her. Then you can try looking for a beautiful fairy.”

“Won’t do.” He sauntered close to her. His nearness didn’t bother Beige; she’s been immune to his taunting. He stroked her hair and she knew he’s going to talk nonsense like he always does. But he did not. He then gently touched her cheeks, sending a shiver down her spine. His touch was so light she could barely feel it. He fondled her lips with his thumb which surprised her but she didn’t make any attempt to stop him. She likes the sensation of his touch. Her eyes were fixed on him while he continued touching her. Feeling her.

He leaned, closing the gap between them, eyes staring intently at her lips. He glanced at her and when she didn’t move, planted his lips on hers. His kiss was soft yet expressive and as he pressed on, she kissed back. Emotions exploded inside her: confusion, astonishment and rapture.
