Sarcastic Replies

I’m damn scared right now. These guys look scary; those tattoos on their arms—and some even have on their face— are some proof they are members of some gang.

“Shit.” I’ve cursed myself several times in my head already. I shouldn’t have run away. No, I shouldn’t have started that nonsense argument earlier and left Gabe. Now my feet dragged me here: an alley with these man-eating-looking (if you know what I mean), full of piercings thugs.

“So missy,” the bald guy who has a very large ring pierced on his nose, several on both his ears, and I think one on his tongue sauntered closer. “You seem lost. We might be able to help.”

Despite my wobbly legs, I stood with a straight face. I might be small but I can kick some ass, though getting pass them is way impossible since they’re twice bigger than I am and outnumber me which is pretty obvious. They’re four and there’s only me. “No need. I’m fine by myself.” Gabe, where are you when I need you? I’m not taking back what I said earlier but I’d really appreciate it if you’d come.

They laughed hysterically as if I said a very funny joke. That’s it; I’m getting out of here.

I took steady steps toward my only way which happens to be behind them. To my dismay, they stopped laughing and the baldy who seems to be the leader pinned me back on the wall.

“Where do you think you’re going miss? We wanted to play with you before you go.” The others snickered, finding amusement in what baldy said. His grip on my wrists is just too tight and it’s starting to sting.

“Let me go, ugly,” I spat. I know acting tough is like pulling me to death but I just don’t want to show them how scared I am. I struggled despite the fact that I can’t break free.

“Feisty.” When he reached for my face, I acted on reflex, thus, kicking his shin. He finally released me and grabbed where I kicked him then glared back at me. No, glaring is an understatement. His looks are like daggers ready to pierce me. I closed my eyes when he raised his hand in the air, in an angle to hit me.

I waited for the impact but nothing came. I instantly open my eyes and found two of those guys sprawled on the ground, totally knocked out. I looked on the other direction where the guy I kicked and another one were brawling with Gabe. He punched the guy with spiky hair and kicked the one full of piercing before grabbing my wrist.

“Come on!” We broke to a run. Despite having short legs, I was able to stay on pace with him. I am not a member of the track team if I can’t run fast. As soon as we rounded a street, we slowed down to catch our breaths. I was surprised when he punched the wall near my face, caging me in the process.

“You were such a kid running away from me. You even gave me a hard time looking for you. Tss. Taking advantage of your height to hide.” He murmured the last sentence but I still heard it.

I stared on the ground just to evade his eyes on me. It’s partly his fault but I’m not going to say it. Who knows, it might ignite the small fire we started earlier and end up arguing again. I don’t want that. “I’m really sorry.”

He leaned closer and rested his head on my shoulder, sending a tingly feeling to my insides. He heaved a heavy sigh. “Why are you doing this to me? You make me worry about you a lot, you know.”

I didn’t reply. I mean, what am I supposed to say?

“Say something, will you?”

I awkwardly shifted and he moved back, eyes fixed on me. He’s not angry, I can tell. His eyes were staring, just staring, and waited for my response. When I was still silent, he released another sigh. Out of frustration, I bet.

“Have you gone deaf, Lea?”

What he said brought a frown on my face. “What? No.”

“Then why are you not talking?”

“I just did.”

He threw me a pissed look which made me bit my lower lip. Wrong move dude, you just made the dragon more pissed.

“Do that again and you know what happens next.”

“Okay, no more sarcastic replies,” I said half-smiling, trying to lighten up the mood.

He chuckled while I raised a brow at him. “I meant you running way. But no more sarcastic comebacks from you sound good to me.”
