Chapter 5~

One minute. That's all the time I have left to live. The thought makes my body go numb and for a second, it feels like I'm not in any pain. I could die in a minute and escape this mad world.

Serenity grabs my arm. "Come on! We can't give up yet!"

I still don't move. "Serenity, we could die." I whisper.

"Exactly! So move!" She tries to shove me down the stairs.

I stumble and fall to my knees. "Why?"

Serenity points at the metal wall covering the door. "Don't let them die in vain Charlie!" She yanks me to my feet and grabs my shoulders, making me scream. "Do you want them to die in vain?!"

I sob. I don't know the answer to that question. My shoulder and neck was all bloody and the smell made me lightheaded.

Serenity doesn't waist another second. She shoves me down the stairs and I roll- literally roll- down to the second floor. I get smashed against another metal door.

Serenity leaps down beside me. Our only two pathways to freedom where blocked both by metal. Serenity grabs my bloodied shirt and stares into my eyes. "Charlie. You are a magician. Get us out of here." She grips me tighter and brings her face closer to me. "Please."

I look at the pretty girl in front of me. I couldn't let her die. I get back up to my feet and quickly observe the stairwell we where in. How did I never not notice it before?

There where escape hatches in the stairwells. I run to the secret doorway in the wall. I quickly break down the door (these doors apparently weren't effected by the lockdown.) and look outside.

There where no ledges, no grips that could be used to scale down the side of the Prison. We where at the second floor. A jump from this distance could end badly.

But we had no choice.

I wrapped an arm around Serenity's waist, closed my eyes, and jumped.

And I hoped that whatever gods where out there heard my prayers.

Serenity and I both landed on the ground, falling and twisting in ways bones normally aren't supposed to go.

Neither of us could warn the other to look out as the Prison exploded right next to us.
