Past
3rd POV
Acheron spent a whole year training himself and his monsters.
His powers improved exponentially, he didn't even need to try to use them anymore. They did what he wanted with barely a thought.
For the past year he had been using his shadows to spy on Olympus.
He finally decided to make his move.
The attack took place under cover of darkness. Acheron brought a dome of shadows down around the city, trapping everyone in and keeping anyone else out.
Monsters and shadow warriors swarmed the city. The shadow warriors isolated all of the normal humans in their homes. The mythical humans were rounded up by the monsters.
Acheron, on the other hand, was making his way to the second tallest building in New York, 432 Park Avenue. He could have taken the tallest, but even he had problems with attacking the new One World Trade Center.
He quickly had the building cleared out and turned into a base. Then he stood atop the building, watching the city below.
"Sir, what are your orders?" A voice rumbles from behind him.
Dark shattered eyes, glinting with insanity, looked over at the hellhound.
"Make sure the rules are clear. If anyone disobeys, make them understand that we don't mind killing them." Acheron grinned madly.
The monster bows his head before leaving to pass on the message.
"A nice shiny new toy. How long until I break it?" He giggled to himself.

The city is dark. Not a soul can be seen, but a girl darts from the shadows. She hopes in vain to reach the relative safety of her home.
The shadows come to life, snapping at her. They don't try to catch her, they just tease. She soon finds herself at a dead end.
Spinning around, she realizes she is surrounded. Then dark, insane laughter echoes through the city. The young girl shivers in fear. She knows she won't be making it home tonight, or ever.
Her last moments are filled with pain, mad laughter, and blood red eyes.
A scream travels through the air, reaching the ears of every living thing within the city. No one doubts what that scream means.
The Nightmare has struck again.
