It's been month since I've been on independent learning. And with this time, I've managed to read a ton of baby books. From how I should raise them, to what to buy, and things to expect during all stages of pregnancy.
Today would be a day for a sonogram where Taylor and I can see the most updated measurements of the baby and I think today we're finding out the sex of the baby.
"So! You excited? How you holding up at school?" I swing Taylor's hand as we walk to the doctors office. "They've heard and said some insulting things. Using the word knocked up. I hate it but it's whatever." I sigh and kiss his cheek. I don't want him to be so stressed out, I love him too much.
My mom checks us into our appointment and we all wait patiently. "When do you think our baby will kick?" Taylor asks. I take Taylor's hand and rub it against my stomach. "I dunno. It hasn't yet." Taylor bends down a little and rests his head on my chest. "I'll love you forever." Taylor kisses my stomach.
"Shawn Mendes." A nurse calls out. My mom, Taylor, and I stand up and head to the back doctors office. I take a seat on the extended cushion for patients. The nurse shakes my hand and introduces herself, also letting us know what she's doing today.
"So. You'll have this liquid that can help me determine your baby's graph. We'll figure out your sex of the baby and maybe the due date." I get this gushy feeling of excitement as I take Taylor's had.
She rubs my stomach with her ointment and we look at the black screen trying to seek something. Soon my technician gasps and it worries me. "What? What's going on! What is something wrong?" I pant tugging at her arm. Taylor pulls my hand away from her and rubs my hand. "Baby. Calm..."
"It's just... I think we're seeing two figures. Shawn, you might be having twins." The technician tells us. I look at Taylor and he kisses my forehead. "We've got two winners." Taylor laughs in attempt to lighten the mood.
"That's so much for me to handle. But, it's worth it. I'm ready for them." Taylor smiles and leans down to kiss me. "Without your support, I wouldn't know what to do." I say to Taylor. "Aw thanks hun!" My mom says. "Yeah... You too mom. I'm so sorry. But yes, a separate thank you to you too." I was talking to Taylor but it's okay, my mom is the perfect support.
"As for gender calls, they should be female. I'm mostly sure both of them are. But you can count on the one on the left to be a female. Congrats on your baby girl." Our nurse excites us. "Thank you so much." My mom comments.
We're not just done yet because she's figuring out the monthly measurements. "As of now, I've wrote down the record of your baby's length, width, and pounds. You're up to accuracy!" I clap my hands and just as I was about to rub my stomach, mom swats my hand. "Not just yet." I look at the liquid that's still on my tummy. "Oh."
We head out as mom goes to work and I ask that she drops the two new coming parents Babies'R'Us, in connection to the toy shop one as well. "Bye mom. We'll probably take a bus home." I suggest. Taylor looks at me weird, "You're pregnant. You sure that's fine with you?" I nod with a smile, "As long as I'm with you, I'm perfectly okay."
"Great. Now let's go look at pink crib sheets and pink car seats and pink clothes and pink baby bottles. And pink-" I cut off Taylor with a kiss from his outbursts of excitement. "Yes, I get it. Pink." I laugh and take his hand as we walk into the store.
"I have this list that tells me most priority to least. So... Let's take a look. But only looking today. No buying. Yes?" I straighten out with him. "Yes, babe! Now let's go!" When my boyfriend, the father figure, is more excited than I am... I love this.
We go to the car seats, strollers and cushions. "So I'm making a list of the exact thing I want when I see it here. Then we'll buy next time around or put it on a wish list." I announce.
Taylor runs to the section and looks at all the different strollers. "If there's two, we might as well get the duo one. They'll be so cute. Wait does that mean we need two car seats and two rockers? And woah, what the hell is that over there! Some baby jail!" Taylor starts chasing after other items on display. I giggle before going over to him, walking of course because I've got two extra bodies with me.
"That's a play pen. I guess babies nap there too." I comment at the item he's pointing at. "What if that rocker does not stabilize our babies. It's basically a spoon rocking on its own." I look at the object that has an arm to swing the baby on its thin layer of cushion. "Baby, they have month to month recommendations. If they're light enough, surly it won't break."
"I don't trust that. And if I'm the builder of this contraption, you really can't trust me." Taylor scoffs and walks off to the bottles and other little utensils. "Taylor. We don't have to buy everything here. And it's okay. We don't need certain things. Because we've got ourselves."
There's this display in a glass that Taylor looks at and presses the red button for queue of projection. It's a beast feeding suction, and an example of how it works. "Holy shit. That's going on your boob? You think it hurts? Why can't I just do that for you. No machine needed." Taylor shouts. "Hush. Like I've said, we don't need it all. Though, I do want my babies to have natural milk before powder."
We walk around talking about our nursery room, looking at different play toys, and all the different food our baby will eat. How they'll grow up at my house as my moms office changes to the babies' room and that Taylor will have to gather everything to live with me.
It's almost as our life is mostly planned. Now we just need it to make it happen.
