Mistletoe Tradition
"And this is our daughter, Xiazi. She prefers using her Korean name Miyoon." Mr. Wu introduced as Mrs. Wu tapped her daughter's back, a signal for her to bow.
Miyoon curled a strand of hair behind her ear and followed orders, "She is so cute!" The woman gushed, clamping Miyoon's cheeks between her boney fingers.
Miyoon pulled away as politely as she could when a pair of hands covered her eyes. "Guess who?"
"Myungsoo, if you're going to do that at least change your voice." She suggested. His hand fell to her shoulders and he spun her around.
"Oops. Oh well." He replied; at this point Miyoon forgot about his failed joke because before her very eyes stood a dashing boy. Myungsoo's hair was gelled up a smidge, exhibiting his perfect symmetrical face; he dressed in a long-sleeved dress shirt with a corduroy vest resting on top and a red tie lying in the middle.
"O-oppa," she stammered as she examined him from head to toe.
God, did he look good. He looked so good that Miyoon couldn't even come up with words to describe him. Kim Myungsoo literally made her speechless. "Is that my best friend in a dress? So cute!" He beamed as he hooked an arm around her neck, allowing his subtle scent to fill her nostrils.
She was lost for a second because this had all seemed surreal until, "Sorry we're late! Did we miss the party?" Dongwoo hollered as the other four boys appeared by his side, flustered. They were dressed-up as well and Miyoon had to admit they cleaned up nicely.
The guests watched the youngsters enter and began to murmur amongst themselves. "You guys aren't late at all!" Miyoon assured as she ran up to them. "You guys look cool!"
"Tch, cool?" Woohyun scoffed.
"What about suave?" Sunggyu commented.
"Or charming." Sungjong added.
"Or handsome." Sungyeol jumped in last.
"Okay, you're all of that. But remember, best behavior." Miyoon informed, wagging her finger at each of them. "And where's Taela?"
The boys all looked around and shrugged, "Were we supposed to watch her?" Dongwoo asked, dumbfounded.
"No, just wondering." she answered.
"So what could we do?" Myungsoo said while they were all seated on the couch. They were the only children; besides, Kris and his friends who were doing their own thing while the adults were enticing themselves with the matters of politics, investments, stocks and other grown-up subjects.
Taela had eventually appeared and soon the chiming of bells rang through the crowded halls of the house. It was answered immediately and revealed a happy yet nervous Chunji. "Is this Miyoon's house?" He squeaked. The maid nodded and smiled as she gestured him inside. She took his jacket for him and when his eyes found their way to the person who invited him, he couldn't control his accelerating heart.
He ran his hand through his hair, smelled his own breath and finally deemed himself worthy enough to approach Miyoon.
"Did you get lost?" Miyoon asked, standing up from her seat.
"Ye—"
"Chanhee oppa!" Taela spazzed as she randomly shoved her friend out of the picture. Miyoon fell into Myungsoo's arms and blushed hard when they stayed in that position for a few prolonged seconds.
"Taela-sshi." Chunji stated, trying to dodge her so that he would be able to see Miyoon. Oh my god, why is she bothering me so much. Leave me alone please.
