The Six

Chapter 2

“Excuse me?” Menea said as she comforted May “What you mean dad is part of the Six? Who were those men? And what did they want with dad?”

“Your father is one of the six most dangerous people in the world.” explained Jean.

“What do you mean?” said Majella in a croaking voice “Dad is an English teacher. How can he be dangerous?”

“Currently he’s a teacher” corrected Jean “He used to be a member for the United Nation Peacekeepers. He join their ranks at 16 due to his talent in hurting people and lasted there for 20 years.He killed a lot of criminals during his years there, and twice that number was sent to prison.” Jean blushed and said “I first met him as he saved me from a hostage crisis.”

Carlene was about to squeal while Menea chuckled. “How can he be dangerous? Isn’t he saving lives?” said Majella. “He’s a potential threat to the world’s safety. He killed a small army by himself when he was 19 with a knife.”

Elijah’s mouth went open as he said “A knife?”

Jean continued talking “Ever since he retired, the United Nations considered the fact that he could be hired as a mercenary against the world, even though he clearly wants to settle down. They made him the 6th most dangerous man in the world to keep an eye out for him.”

“Then why don’t we see dad’s face on the list of most dangerous people in the world?” asked Elijah “I mean, what about Bin Laden or Kim Jeong Un?”

“Those people use others to gain their infamous title.” said Jean “Your father and the rest of the Six got theirs on their own. Besides, it would cause mass panic if the world knew about ‘The Six’ and their dangers”

Jean parked their car in front of their home and said “Follow me” She took the siblings to their father’s study. A small room full of books. “Don’t tell me dad kept a hidden room at the back of his book shelves?” said Elijah.

“Close, but not quite” said Jean, not looking at her son. Jean took a book that read “The history of cotton”. Instead of coming out of the shelf however, it only came out half way.

At first, nothing happened, then Sam’s desk split in half, revealing a spiral staircase.

“Cool” said Elijah.

Jean turned on the lights of the staircase and told the siblings to go down. “Your father built this place along with Ivy.” May, wiping her tears asked “Who’s Ivy?”

“Ivy is the 4th most dangerous person of the world.” said Jean “The only girl in the group. She’s like a sister to me and your father. But, she preferred calling your father by his codename, Six.”

“Six?” chided Menea “that’s a stupid codename.” Jean laughed and said “Their codenames are based on their rank. Your dad is the 6th, that’s why he’s Six.”

“Then what’s Ivy’s codename?” asked May.

“That is her codename. Ivy is said as in ‘IV’ like the roman numeral.” said Jean “It is kinda witty of her to think of a codename like that.”

“Wait” said Carlene “You were close with the 4th most dangerous person in the world?” Everyone stopped walking.

“Not just Ivy, Carlene.” replied her mother “All of the members of ‘the Six’ are close to this family. They need to stick together with all the eyes looking at them. They’re so close they have a big influence in your lives. They are...”

“They’re our what?” said Menea curiously. Jean didn’t answer and just said “We need to hurry.”

They continued walking down the stairs in silence until they reach a hallway. They walked from there to a large hangar. The siblings were at awe at what they saw. There’s no way that this large room with a plane would be below their house.

“Your father said to me in case something like this would happen, you would have to find the other members of ‘the Six’ to help you find your father.” said Jean as she prepared a few papers on the desk near the table.

“Why?” said Carlene “Could we just let the authorities do this? Also, why the most dangerous people in the world? You’re letting your children go to people like them?”

Jean put the papers in a sling bag then walked to Carlene held her with both of her hands as if to tell her something important. “Carlene, they’re called the ‘most dangerous people in the world, not ‘the most evil people in the world’.” said Jean in a pained voice “those are two different things. Besides, they will take care of you well, you guys are the only ones that they will trust, aside from the other members of ‘the Six’ and themselves.”

Jean gave Carlene the bag and told her “You are the boss of your siblings. All of the paper works and instructions are in the bag. When someone will try to contact you, say you work for Six and they’ll let you pass. But don’t say you are his children. Only a few people know ‘The legendary knight, Six’ has children. Everything you will need is in the plane; food, water and clothes. You can restock when you meet San, he’s part of ‘the Six’. Tell him that ‘the Eye’ took your father, and he will know what to do. He’s in Okinawa, Japan.

“What’s ‘the Eye’?” asked Carlene.

“They are an independent organization that is against ‘the Six’.” Jean explained “Your father didn’t tell much about them though.”

“Wait, Ate Carlene’s in charge?” said May “You’re not joining us?”

Jean shook her head “I can’t. It will raise suspicion if I leave the country. The eye will definitely hunt us. At least, they won’t make a move for a while if I stayed since they’ll think we’re doing nothing but hope for the police to deal with the incident.”

“Also…”

She gave Elijah an Xbox controller

“Elijah will drive the plane.” said Jean “The plane is designed to function as a video game. It’s like you are just flying a plane in GTA 4. It was all Ivy’s idea. I hope letting you play video games paid off.”

Elijah nodded and took the controller. “What if…” Elijah mumbled “You won’t be.” said his mother as if she already knows. “You will know what to do when you are already inside the control area of the plane.”

Jean pushed a button on the wall revealing the exit ramp.

Jean beckoned all of them to come near her and she gave them a big hug. “You are all grown up to understand the life of your father, but too young to meet ‘The Six’.” Jean said as tears fell on her eyes. “But your father, Six, knows what he’s doing. So trust his judgment, ok?”

They all nodded at Jean as tears also fell down their eyes.

They all stepped inside the plane. Elijah went to the control room and sat on the gamer chair. He pressed a few buttons, and understood what to do in a matter of minutes. Jean smiled said “You’re ready to go.”

She kissed everyone goodbye and stepped out of the plane. All of the siblings sat and wore their seatbelts, as Elijah made the plane leave the hangar and outside the Philippines.
