A knock on the door didn’t even phase her. She was still in the middle of her kitchen staring out in disbelief at what she just read. Her front door opened, with Garrett sticking his head through asking if anyone was home. He then walked in, closed the door behind him, and saw Jennifer in the kitchen.
“Jenny? Hey what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” he said in a joking manner, until he saw that she was not in a comical mood. Her hands slowly dropped to her side and her eyes slowly met his, in a far away gaze. He immediately went to her and grabbed both her hands in his, and then realized what was in her hand. “What is wrong Jenny? Is it your phone?” He asked again.
She nodded her head, and then let his hands go before whispering, “You were right Garrett.” She turned away from him as he looked at her phone. She could tell that he was already getting upset. This was supposed to be a sweet Sunday dinner for them, and then this just ruined it. “I’m sorry. I....I....” She then couldn’t help it and broke down in tears. This was really ridiculous. I don’t get this emotional, especially this fast, but I am scared. What did I do? What am I going to do?
She felt arms wrap around her from behind, and then Garrett pulled her close. “You don’t have to say sorry Jenny. I trust you. And after reading that, there is no way this guy could’ve known all that from you just telling him your first name. I thought I was going to come over and talk down about that guy you went on a date with last night, but now I have a different guy on my hit list.”
She stiffened as he talked about her date last night. “Look, about last night. It really wasn’t anything. As a matter of fact, I hit my head and ended the date. As for this...” she cleared her throat and then turned to face him. “I am going to take it to the police first thing tomorrow. I made a really nice dinner and I want to enjoy it with you. This kind of threw me off, but can we put it aside for half an hour?”
He observed her for a minute with a straight face, and then relaxed it into a smile and said, “Yes, let’s enjoy dinner first.”
After dinner, they cleaned up and then sat on the couch next to each other. Jennifer was about to grab the remote, and then remembered the looming thought floating in the air. “So what do we do?”
Garrett, who was just getting relaxed, tensed up and faced her. “We’re definitely going to get the police on him. He’s somehow stalking you, but the only proof you have is texts. So the police will trace his phone and we’ll get him taken care of. But one thought struck me. Do you think you’ve met this guy before? He seems to know you well.”
Sifting through her thoughts, it registered in her mind that this guy knew about her personal life. Knowing that she had a job and what she did is one thing, but then knowing she went on a date with someone is another. “I thought it is a possibility, but then there are so many people out there that I have met. Well knowing about my job, I guess if someone was crazy enough, they could’ve looked up my first name on the clinic website, and that may mean they could’ve been my patient. But I’m not figuring out how he knew I went on a date.”
“I would say lucky guess, because many people go on dates on Saturday night right?” He said in a sarcastic manner before adding, “Except if you’re girlfriend is too nice to say no to a boy and you get stuck at home thinking of ways to get rid of him.”
He winked at her while she gave him a glare. “I told you that it was nothing. Believe me when I say that I am glad to be here with you. Anyways, we’ll just have to wait till the police give us assistance and we can just relax.”
They both agreed and then just loosened up and got comfortable with each other. As they were falling asleep, Garrett suddenly perked up and asked, “Has anything else weird been going on?”
