"After you captured Callie we knew you would come back." Her expression turns upset for a moment. "However, we had hoped she would be with you, but no matter. After she learns of your disappearance she will soon follow." Says the Council woman.

"Why would she. She remembers nothing after you wiped her memory." I spit angrily.

She looks confused. "Did Talikai not restore her memory?"

"He tried but she ran away before he could."

He face tightens up and anger absorbs her. "NO!" She slams a first on the table and the whole room jumps. "That was not the plan! What will we do now? We need the girl!"

The rest of the Council just stares at her in fear as her eyes scour the room, looking for an answer. She then stands up, straightens her back, and folds her hands. "Tell the guards to send out a search party for her. And tell them not to come back without her in custody."

One of the men at the other end of the table practically falls out of his chair and rushes to the door to the left. Once he leaves the smile returns to her face. "Until then, we can have our own fun with you."

Callie

"Ugh! This is impossible!" I groan to myself.

I had ran around half the city and had found no way in through the barrier. How in the world did Baron get in? Did he even get in? I took a minute to catch my breath and then continue to run around the barrier.

Soon I came to a man sitting on the ground whistling to himself. As I approached I remembered him to be Talikai. Relief flooded me, then anger took over after remembering what Lucas had told me.

"Max!"

He turned in my direction and his eyes went wide. Whether it was because he was surprised to see me back or because I called him by his birth name I have no idea.

"Callie?" He stumbled to his feet. "How did you... Why would...?"

Before he could finish any of his questions I walked up to him and threw my fist to his jaw, sending him face first to the ground.

"How could you!" I bent down and picked him up by his collar, knowing fully well that it wouldn't hurt him that much, but it made me feel better. "They told me you were dead! I thought I would never see you again! After mom and dad died you were the only thing I had left and you just forgot about me? I suddenly was unimportant to you?!"

His eyes and face were emotionless which only made me angrier. "I knew you were safer in the city, and I had more important things to worry about."

"Like what!?" I gripped his shirt tighter. "Your stupid world domination? The Max I knew would never sacrifice others for his personal gain! He would never turn his back on his family!" I threw him to the ground in disgust and he groaned as he supported his weight on his elbow. "But I should know by now, you are not the Max I once knew. You're not my brother." I turn my back on him and enter into the hole in the barrier to save the family I have left.

Baron

They brought me out onto the same balcony they intended to murder Callie and I on only a few days prior. Still surrounded by iron bars a small crowd began to form on the streets below.

"People of our great city! This is a traitor we captured trying to break in through the barrier and murder innocent people! And to show that we will not stand for this behavior from anyone, he must be punished!"

A few people in the crowd began to disappear behind buildings. The rest stayed silent and still. Suddenly the bars of the cage dropped but just as quickly chains were wrapped around my wrists. I began to struggle but an electric shock surged from between my shoulders. I fell to the ground in agony and saw a guard standing behind me with a stick in hand. Small murmurs arose from the crowd.

"How... How do you... Have elec... Electricity?" I manage between short breaths.

"Well we can't just give all the good things away to the people. They would waste it, or use it unwisely. As long as we control what remains of it we can put it to practical use."

The guard brings the stick down to my chest and I writhe in pain. With the electricity coursing through my body and out my ears I can't hear myself scream, but I can feel it from the sourness in my throat. He brings the stick back up but my body keeps twitching from the excess jolts leaving me. I slowly open my eyes to see the stick coming closer and I tense up my body as a shock goes through my abdomen. I roll onto my side to try and escape but I can feel myself almost slipping from consciousness before it ends. I prepare myself for another shock but it never arrives. My energy is depleted, my eyes are unable to open, and my hearing is at a loss. After a few minutes I can feel my energy slowly returning but I only have enough to groan in pain. My hearing slowly returns as well but all I can hear is clashing and shouting. Another few minutes pass and I hear two words.

"KILL HER!"
