Elecricity shot throughout my entire body at the touch of his lips. Heat flooded into my skin through the kiss, and I could feel my muscles going weak with desire. My arms pulled him closer, and I deepened the kiss, bringing a hand to the back of his neck. Passion coursed through my veins as I held him in that position.
He pulled back slowly, almost hesitantly, breaking our kiss. His eyes looked into mine once more. Happiness and excitement filled them. A soft smile grew on his face. "I love you, Kaleb." His voice was strong this time, unlike before. Could him admitting that really change him that much?
I looked down into his eyes. A mix of emotions filled me, and butterflies battled with each other in my stomach. I should have been happy, right? But, I had Lucas, and kissing Ricky felt like I was betraying him.
My lips tingled with the after effects of the kiss. I had loved Ricky since the day I met him, and now I had my chance to have him. It didn't feel right though. It couldn't be this easy for me. "Ricky, I..." My voice caught in my throat, and I had to clear it before I could talk.
His expression loosened, and I could tell he knew what I was about to say. "I know..." He went from happy to sad in mere seconds. His head fell, and tears started to drop onto the slab of stone we sat on.
I lifted his head and looked into his deep blue eyes once more. "I do care about you, Ricky. More than you can possible know. I have since the day I met you, and I promise, that will never change."
He leaned forward and draped himself over my shoulder. His voice had weakened again. "I've never felt like this about anyone before, Kaleb. It's scared me for the past few weeks." Weeks? How long had he felt that way about me?
I put one arm around him and rested my other hand on his head, running my fingers through his short hair. "Don't worry, Ricky." His body began to shake a little, and I knew he was crying. I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. I'd be crushed if I were in his shoes.
We sat like that for a few minutes before my phone started playing a Japanese song. Ricky pulled himself off me and I snatched it from my pocket. "Hey Sam. What's up?"
"Grant said he doesn't really feel like going tonight. Thought I'd let you know."
"That's okay. I don't really know if I'll be going either."
"Why not? Is everything okay?" I could hear the worry in her voice.
"Just something that came up. I'll tell you about it later."
"Alright. Call me later." I pushed the 'end' button on my phone to disconnect the call and slipped my phone back into my pants pocket.
Ricky looked up at me. "What was that about?"
I glanced at him. "Well, I was planning for you, me, Samantha, and Grant to go out to Panera Bread tonight. Grant isn't feeling up to it though, so she cancelled. I didn't know if you'd want to go or not, but I thought you might like to. I'm not really all that sure now, though."
He lowered his head a little and stayed quiet for a few minutes. "Ricky... I'm sorry."
A few tears fell on the stone again. He shook his head. "No, it's okay. I... I shouldn't have said anything." He got up and started to leave the cave.
I quickly grabbed his hand and pulled him back to me. His face rested just inches from mine. "Ricky, don't apologize for it. I'm glad you told me."
"But..." I looked into his eyes. He was hurting. I was causing him pain. I could feel my heart cracking in my chest. Ricky didn't deserve this pain, especially not from me.
