The next two weeks flew by before I could even tell that a second had passed. I of course said yes to Ricky, and we told a few of our close friends. By then, almost the entire school knew we were dating, but I didn't care. Ricky proudly told anyone and everyone who asked.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride after seeing how he had managed to mature through this. After everything we had been through, and now... He was mine. I was his. We were together, in every sense of the word.

I wore my ring every day. Sometimes, Ricky would stop and just look at it, no doubt remembering the day with perfect clarity. I knew it would be a day that I could never forget. Every time I closed my eyes, I could hear him asking me to marry him. See him down on one knee in front of me.

"Kaleb?"

Samantha's words pulled me back to reality. "Hmm?"

She smiled. "You're always so spacey lately. It's cute."

I chuckled softly and rolled my eyes. "It's hard not to be. I mean... This is something that I only could have dreamed about before."

"Are you nervous? About tonight?"

Nervous was an understatement. That evening I was to have dinner with Ricky and his family, being introduced as his boyfriend. I had no idea how anyone would react, even his parents, and I had known them for a couple of years now.

"It's not exactly something I'm looking forward to happily. I'm worried that his family isn't going to approve." I bit my lip. How would he react if one of them tried to make a scene?

I groaned. "Sometimes dating has serious nerve issues." It wasn't a complaint, exactly. More of an observation. I didn't mind to go. I only worried for Ricky.

She smiled softly. "Maybe it won't be so bad. After all, you'll never know until you go, right?"

She had a point. It was entirely possible that his family would openly accept him and I together, though it wasn't a likelihood in my head. Then again, I had a tendency to over-think and worry too much.

A sigh passed my lips. "True. I guess we'll see. I should probably start getting ready soon. It's a good two hour drive to his parents' house, and they'll want to sit around and talk for an hour or so."

Samantha nodded softly and got up off the bed, walking to the door. However, as she reached for the knob, it twisted and pushed open. "Oh! Ricky." She blushed. "I'm sorry. I was just leaving. Have fun at your dinner tonight!"

He chuckled. "Nothing to apologize for. I'll see you later." He stepped aside to let her leave and closed the door behind her. "So. Tonight."

I could feel the nerves radiating off him. "It'll be okay. I hope," I said with a gentle smile. I stood up and walked over to him, taking his hand. "Try not to worry too much. We don't have to go as boyfriends. I can be your friend."

He shook his head. "No. You're my boyfriend. My mom and dad at the least should know. I don't want to hide you."

My heart surged with joy at his words. Hearing him call me his boyfriend always made me smile. "Whatever you want, Ricky."

He took my hand and looked at my ring. "I don't know that I'll be ready to tell them that we're engaged, but I know for sure I want to tell my parents that we're together. I don't want to keep this quiet from them. I talk to them too often."

I nodded. "Then we'll tell them." I looked into his eyes and melted. The icy blue color of them always made my legs weak. "I'm by your side no matter what, Ricky."

He smiled gently and leaned down to kiss me. The feeling of his lips on mine had become something so strange to me, but I relished every time it happened.
