you know life is difficult when Hannah stops writing her Louder Fic
*cries dismally*~
waking up, your brain recalls everything that you learned from the doctor.
so what happened to your dad? surely, he would've been here by now.
Dan enters the room quietly and hands you a tray filled with lunch. you realize you didn't take that long of a nap. you eat your food in haste as you notice how hungry you were. Dan stares at you intently and you awkwardly try to eat slower and politer.
"er– y/n," Dan starts. you look up in acknowledgment. "apparently the doctor recommends we go outside today to get you some fresh air...."
that's right! you completely forgot. you nod to him to tell him it was okay as you finish your food. he leaves and enters again with a wheelchair.
"why do I need that?" you ask.
"the doctor thinks you won't be able to walk, or that it'll be unhealthy for your lungs to be able to manage." he says it skeptically.
"ugh, okay fine." you say as this aching for your mom puts you in a bad mood. Dan grabs your arm to help you get out of the bed and into the wheelchair, and you notice just how soft he's trying to be with you, as if you'll shatter beneath a grip too hard. you suppress a small smile under a cascade of hair as you settle into the wheelchair.
he pushes you into the hallway. it looked just like any typical hospital hallway– nurses and aides moving about, holding clipboards and pushing blood racks.
you meet Phil and the doctor outside. the doctor starts talking to you as if nothing had happened between you two before at all. remembering your mother, you silently grieve but pull yourself together as you notice Dan looking at you.
"so, y/n, I want you to breathe in and out as I test something really quick." the doctor says, taking out a stethoscope.
you inhale and exhale slowly as the doctor listens intently and scribbles some things down in a notepad you didn't see before.
you go on a basic walk with Dan and Phil and the doctor stays behind you guys to make it seem like a "normal walk", although you can totally tell he's still there and you never take walks anyway.
Phil starts up the conversation.
"so, y/n, we're going to be headed to London in three days, so be ready. your dad already packed everything for you so you should be good to go."
you just remembered then that you'll be headed to London for an MRI. then you remember your dad.
"why has my dad not been here?" you ask no one in particular.
both Dan and Phil share a look. you don't know what that was for.
there was something the doctor didn't know, but something Dan and Phil weren't telling anyone.
something about the reason Dan likes you, the reason you're not hearing from your father, and the reason the doctor is sending you to London rather than just a different hospital in America.
that didn't seem as possible as it inevitably was.
