CHAPTER FIVE

History class was as boring as ever. The new teacher, Mr. Beckson, droned on and on about World War 1.

I put in my earbuds and put my head down on the desk. The next thing I knew, I woke up in a bed with someone's arms wrapped tightly around my waist.

I didn't know who's house I was at or who was holding me like their life depended on it. I tried to decide if I should stay where I am or try to move.

Curiosity got the best of me and I stirred ever so slightly, hoping the person hugging me wasn't a light sleeper.

I was almost all the way off the bed when the person said one word that made my heart melt.

"Stay," came a husky voice from the other side of the bed. I turned around to find none other than Alex.

How did I get here?

I slowly got back into the bed, speechless, and let him hold me again, still wondering what was even going on.

Why is he being so nice? I'm so confused...

It suddenly got really hot and I was shaking. I looked up to see him shaking me. "Why are you shaking me?" "Sam, we need to leave. C'mon, Sam."

I opened my eyes to find that I was at my desk and someone was shaking me, saying those exact words. I looked up to find Alex.

"Wake up, class is over. C'mon," I stood up, shivers going up my spine. "You're sweating like a pig.  Were you dreaming about me? I tend to make people hot and steamy," he said, smirking.

Wow, I really had to be dreaming for him to be nice to me...

All I did was stare at him. "Chill. I was only half joking.  You're burning up pretty bad.  What's wrong with you?" All the sudden I had this weird feeling in my stomach.

My tongue started to lift itself up and I knew what was about to happen next.

I ran to the trashcan in the classroom and unloaded all the contents of my stomach into it. I looked up to the teacher and mumbled a "sorry."

"It's fine. I'll call a custodian. Alex, take her to the nurse." Alex did as told and we headed towards the front of the school.

I felt extremely week, and started to lose balance and fall.  I braced myself for the impact with the floor, but it never came.

I suddenly felt a strong pair of arms around me.

That's all I remember before I blacked out.

When I woke up, I was in a room I didn't recognize. I thought I would be in the nurse's office, but I was in someone's bedroom. I looked around at my surroundings and guessed that it was a boy's room.

There's band posters on the wall, a guitar in the corner, and a dog bed.

There's also posters of the expensive, popular cars. It smelled nice in that room. I heard a guy's voice outside the door. "Yeah, she's here. She's not awake yet. The nurse couldn't wake her. I brought her here because her mom isn't home. Yes. I promise. Nothing's gonna happen, geez. Calm down, will you. Damn, get off my back. I'm trying to help her. She's a friend. Okay mom. Bye. Yeah, see you later."

The door handle started to move and I thought about pretending to be asleep, but decided against it.

Alex came in and was a little startled when he saw me.
