"Goodmorning, beautiful." I heard my husband, Nick, whisper in my ear as I fluttered my eyes open.

I rubbed my eyes and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. I looked at the time, mumbling "oh shit." to my myself as I got out of bed. I had 30 minutes to get to work.

I worked at a school in New York as a teachers aid, about 10 minutes away fro my apartment where I lived. It wasn't the safest place, but nothing bad has ever happened there.

I quickly rummaged through my drawers to find my work clothes, undressing while doing that, Nick examining my body as I did so.

I went into the washroom, put on a bit of mascara and brushed my hair. I had no time to do it any other way.

"Bye, Nick. I'll see you after I get home, Okay?" I said, quickly pecking him on the lips.

He followed me downstairs as I quickly rushed to get my bag together.

"Bye, Charlotte. I love you. Stay safe, okay?" He said to me.

"Nick you've been telling me that every day since I started working here." I chuckled. "I know it's kind of a shady area, but nothing bad has ever happened there. And I doubt anything ever will."

We kissed each other goodbye, and I quickly ran out the door, trying not to trip on my heels as I made my way to my car.

I quickly got into my car and turned it on, mentally praying that I wouldn't be late.

I had only been working there a few months, so it wouldn't be the best thing for me if I had been late.

When I arrived at the school, I smiled at the sight of all the children playing out in the yard. The area was a bit shady, but the school wasn't so bad, and the kids were absolutely amazing and all kind-hearted.

"Hi, Mrs. Robinson!" I heard kids greet me from left to right. I smiled and waved at all of them as I proceeded to the classroom I was working in.

When I arrived there, the teacher had already started her lesson with the kindergartens. I mouthed "I'm so sorry." As I saw her make eye contact with me when she saw me walk in. She nodded and smiled as she continued her lesson.

About ten minutes after I had arrived, I heard the P.A system announce something. "Attention all students and staff, we are now going into a lockdown procedure. Please do as we have rehearsed. This is not a drill." I heard the principal say from the system.

As a few of the kindergarten kids started to panic, I stayed calm, inside and out. I wasn't just faking it, we've had many lockdowns before. I knew it was probably a raccoon or a stray dog that had gotten into the building.

I took off my heels and walked in my bare feet over to the classroom door, to pull down the curtain and turn off the light. I took my heels off as to not make any noise.

I put a finger over my lip to signal the kids to stop talking, as we all hurried into a corner, to not be seen. This is just the drill we were taught when we had a practice lockdown.

After a few minutes, the lockdown still hadn't ended. How long does it take to get a damn dog out of the school? I thought to myself.

As I heard heavy footprints walking down the halls, my heart started to race. And what happened next, completely made me want to cry.

"We know you're in there!" I heard a low and unfamiliar voice shout, as they banged on the classroom door from the hallway. A couple of the kids started quietly panicking. In the softest and quietest voice I could, I told them to stay calm and that everything would be okay. Even if I didn't believe it myself.
