I laid on the beach, the hot sun beaming down on my body. I could hear children playing, laughing and having a great time.
Music blasted through my eyes and I was just about to all asleep as a soccer ball hit me right in the face, resulting in my eye hurting and sand getting in my hair.
"What the fuck?" I mumbled to myself, sitting up and taking off my sunglasses.
I held the ball in my hand and looked to the side where the ball came flying at me, to see a tall guy with brown hair jogging his way towards me. "Sorry about that." He said to me, approaching me.
I stood up and handed the ball to him, having to look up as if I was sitting in the very front seat at the movie theatre, because of how tall he was.
"It's okay." I said. He smiled and winked at me, then turned around and made his way back to where he was playing.
He stopped in his tracks for a moment, and then turned back around to face me, as I was just about to sit down.
"Do you, uh— wanna come play soccer with my friends and I?" He asked me, hesitating.
"I, uh— sure I guess." I replied to him.
He smiled at me and I followed after him as he carried the ball over to two other boys. "This is Moises and Gabriel." The guy said, pointing to two guys he was playing with. "Oh, and I'm Nicholas. Call me Nick, though."
"Nice to meet you guys." I said, smiling. "I'm Melissa. You can call me Meli, though."
"Well its nice to meet you, Meli." Nick said, smirking at me.
"So are we going to play?" Moises said to us. Nick tossed the ball to Gabriel.
"Okay, Moises and I will be on a team and you two can be together. Oh, and you can call me Gabe." Gabe said to us.
"Ooh, the two lovebirds together." Moises said, both him and Gabe making kissy faces at us.
"Lovebirds? Not yet." Nick said. I laughed awkwardly because I was really confused. I just met this guy and he's saying we're lovebirds?
My thoughts were interrupted by Nick. "Hopefully you're as good at soccer as you look."
"Flirt much, Nicholas?" I said to him, laughing.
"Got that right, Melissa." He replied, winking.
We played soccer for a good hour, and Nick and I won.
"Damn, Meli. You're not too bad." Nick said.
"Shit, it's hot. We should go get ice cream." Moises said.
"Count me in." Gabe said.
"Sure. Meli, you coming?" Nick asked me.
"Yeah sure, let me just go get my shirt and shorts." I said.
"Are you sure? Why not just wear your bikini?" Nick said to me.
I rolled my eyes playfully and headed over to my umbrella and towel, which was right next to where theirs was.
I grabbed my shorts and crop top from my bag, putting it over my bikini. I looked over to see that Gabe and Moises were talking to Nick, and Nick was looking over at me. I decided to think nothing of it.
Nick's POV;
Melissa walked away to her umbrella and Moises Gabe and I went to get our shirt and shoes.
"So, you like Meli?" Moises asked me.
"Me? What— no." I said to them, while looking over at her.
"Sure." They both said in almost complete unison, clearly unconvinced.
"Okay, maybe I do. But she'd never go for somebody like me." I said to both of them.
They looked at each other and laughed at the same time. "Dude, it's clear she likes you too." Gabe said.
"Look, I'll talk to her, okay?" Moises said.
Melissa's POV;
When we arrived at the ice cream stand, we all ordered our ice cream and then sat down at a table. After a few moments of us talking, Gabe says something.
"Nick, I, uh— I want more ice cream. Come get it with me." Gabe says, winking at Moises, whose sitting directly across from him. They both got up and Nick winked at Moises.
I looked weirdly at Moises and he gave me a "don't worry about it" look.
"So..." Moises started. "You like Nick?"
"What? I mean— he's attractive but I barely know him. Um, I don't know."
"You do like him!" Moises exclaimed. "Ooo. That's cute, Meli." He said, making kissy faces at me once again.
"He'd never like me anyways, though. So it's whatever." I said to him.
"Aw, you're cute. But, that's exactly what he said to me earlier today." Moises said to me.
"Really? I mean, uh— cool." I said to him. Very cool, Melissa. I thought to myself, mentally rolling my eyes.
Moises laughed just as Nick and Gabe came back and sat down with more ice cream.
I noticed that Nick looked at Moises with wide eyes and Moises nodded his head. "Uh, Meli, can I talk to you?" Nick asked, right after.
We walked towards the beach and Nick stopped me. "Uh, I need to tell you something." He said.
"What is it?" I asked him, even though I was already 99% what he was going to tell me, thanks to Moises.
"I— I kind of like you." He said, looking into my eyes and scratching the back of his neck.
I laughed, and he looked confused. "Yeah, Moises kind of told me." He looked at me, worriedly. "Don't worry, dork. I like you too." I said.
"Really?!" He said, looking really excited.
I nodded my head and before I could say anything, he smashed his soft, warm lips into mine.
"Aww." I heard two familiar voices say in almost complete unison. I pulled away to see Moises and Gabe approaching us. "Lovebirds." Moises said.We both laughed before Nick passionately kissed me once again.
