"Next." NamJoon yelled as he finished serving another costumer. The boy lazily picked up a pack of gum given to him by some toddler. NamJoon sheepishly smiled to kid's mom who didn't seem to be paying any attention to what her descendant was doing.
"Hey Genius!" NamJoon heard his boss address him and had to fight an urge to throw a pack of bear bottles at the man. Instead he pulled a polite smile. "Yes, sir?" the boss rose his eyebrow. "Hoseok isn't feeling that well by the gas station, go replace him."
NamJoon sighed and bowed to his boss, but as soon as the man passed by him, NamJoon frowned and cursed him under his breath. Leaving his usual place at the cash register he made his way to the gas station where Hoseok used to help the costumers use gasoline machine or would just do all the job for them. NamJoon couldn't help, but wonder what happened to his friend so suddenly. It must be something serious even if the boss told him to take a break.
As soon as NamJoon sat down the jeep pulled over by him. He went around the car and knocked on the darkened driver's window. The window pulled down. "Good morning sir-" NamJoon's sentence got stuck in his throat. The man behind the wheel didn't seem to notice boy's struggle with his words. He just tossed enough money to fill the whole cenister and continued his conversation on the phone.
He was wearing shades and his haircut was different. But it was same Kim SeokJin. NamJoon could have recognised him anywhere. Yes, they didn't leave on the best terms, yet NamJoon's heart raced seeing him.The boy once known as Mon went around the jeep that Jin drove and shoved the money into his pocket. He was filling up the canister, but his mind was very far away. The boy almost slipped on the puddle under hsi feet as he hung the gas cord right back in its place. NamJoon looked over at the driver, his stare found Jin's eyes in the mirror hanging on the front window, but SeokJin wasn't looking at him.
NamJoon had to hold back so he wouldn't run to his hyung and yell at his face that it's him. Instead of doing so he just held up his thumb slowly nodding and the driver eventually noticed. The engine starter and the jeep pulled out the gas station parking lot. NamJoon was left standing all alone and broken. He was unable to function. The only thought in his head that repeated itself countless time was that SeokJin just was so close, yet so far.
NamJoon turned around to see if any new costumers weren't coming. He couldn't see a single car and Mon decided to go back inside and see if Hoseok can comeback to his duty. NamJoon just couldn't function from that point on. He waited by the bathroom expecting Hoseok to come out sooner or later.
"Thanks for covering for me man." Hoseok went out men's bathroom wiping his lips with a sleeve. NamJoon squinted disgusted. "No problem." He replied turning away. "I don't know what would I do without you." Hoseok cheerfully exclaimed throwing his hands around NamJoon's shoulders.
"Probably die." NamJoon replied seriously while shrugging. Hoseok took few steps back and frowned. He carefully checked his friend from head to toe when tilted his head. "Seriously, as much as I appreciate you being here, what are you doing here? This job is obviously pulling you into depression and your parents have more money than you will ever need." NamJoon sighed shaking his head.
At that very moment he did kind of regretted choosing this job at gas station, just because there was less chance to meet Jin somewhere else. But NamJoon didn't think he will ever see his hyung ever again when signing a contract.
NamJoon sighed. "Exactly." He did a pause. "My parents do, I want to earn my own money." And he walked back to the cash register taking his old spot.
His eyes were looking at the road, but silver jeep never came back.
