The walk to Hannah's was unbearable. With every step closer to her house my heart would sink even more because I knew she wouldn't be there. I decided to walk to her house because I needed the fresh air and it gave me time to think of what I was going to say or ask when I got to the door. I stopped a block away from her house. My hands were shaking and a lump had formed in my throat. Part of me wanted to turn around and go back home to avoid the ugly truth. At the same time, I needed to know. Her house was in a quiet neighborhood. Everyone here knew each other and was very friendly. Usually there were children outside playing. Assuming that they had heard the news about Hannah, that had changed and the streets were completely empty. I walked up to her door but before I even reached it, her roommate, boyfriend, and parents ran out to me.
"Have you heard from Hannah?" Her mother's eyes were swollen and red from crying. I stepped over to her and hugged her.
"No I haven't, I'm sorry." She started to cry again. I rubbed her back to soothe her. She broke from the hug and gave me a sad smile. "Sorry, it's just that I'm so worried about her." I nodded my head understanding. We all were worried. This must have been killing them the most. After all Hannah became their only child after her older brother died in a car accident. Brandon was staring at the ground.
"I should have been here for her when she needed me." He whispered. This left us all in silence. Hannah's father looked like he was trying to control his emotions, especially his anger but wasn't doing a great job at it. The silence seemed to last forever. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Why are we just standing here? We should be out looking for her!" Brandon snapped his head up. His face was twisted oddly. He walked abruptly up to me.
"You don't think we've done that? Where were you every time we went out hours on end looking for Hannah? Huh?! Where were you?!" His eyes were tearing up. Hannah's roommate grabbed Brandon's shoulder.
"Yelling isn't going to help." I looked at Brandon's face. He was defeated. Anger rose in me.
"I'm not just going to stand here while Hannah is still missing! I'm going to find her." I turned and walked away. My hands were shaking. I hadn't realized they were in fist. My vision got blurry and my eyes were burning.
"I'm coming Hannah."
