The interrogation room was cold. I was trying my best not to shiver, so far it has been unsuccessful. Officer Brown had lead me to this room and said he would be back shortly. That was an hour ago. I put my hands on the table. They were shaking so I clasped them together to stop it. Or at least make it so it wasn't noticeable.
"Christopher Evans? Am I saying that correctly?" It was Officer Brown. Finally. His voice was gruff like he was just getting over a bad sore throat.
"Yes, you are saying that right." I shifted my weight in my chair. Officer Brown sat across from me. His face looked like he was ready to go home. He folded his arms across his chest and leaned back in his chair. He stared at me for a moment before saying anything.
"Chris, you seem like a good kid. Now we don't want to take up to much more of your time seeing that it is late and you probably want to get home. So lets make this quick. Alright?" I nodded my head. The way he was looking at me made me kind of uncomfortable. His stare was really cold. That was probably the worse thing about it.
"So lets get to it shall we? Why were you in the woods?" That question alone seemed very obvious to why.
"I was looking for Hannah." he sat up slightly to write something down on his yellow notepad.
"What made you go there?"
"She loved those woods. She always went there. Naturally that's where I thought she would be." He wrote something else and nodded his head. This was pointless, i didn't know anything about what happened to Hannah.
"How did you find her? I know you've been asked this already but we need to make sure you're set with this story." What was that suppose to mean?
"Like I said earlier, when I got to the edge of the woods by that road, a terrible smell from the sewer came by. When I got up to see what smelt bad, I saw the blood trail and the drain lid open. When I opened it, I saw her in it." I choked on the last part. Officer Brown was staring at me with a surprised look. He put his pen down and sat up straight.
"Chris was this you?" I gave him a disgusted look.
"No I didn't do it! I would never hurt her!" He nodded his head in approval.
"I know an honest man when I see and hear one. I know it wasn't you. You don't have a violent history. We all know this. we just have to do our job. Ya know?"
"Yes I know." He smiled.
"We were just curious to how you found her and we've been looking for days. Anyway its late and so far your name is clear so you may go. Officer Grant will show you the way out and give you your stuff back." I stood up and walked to the door.
"But before you go, just a word of advice. Be careful." I walked out the door without looking back at him. Be careful. Of what? Why would I need that as advice?
