After what felt like forever, you had finally been set down. You glared at him, "Where are we?"

He chuckled at your frustration, "Just look around, doll."

You crossed your arms stubbornly, refusing to look around until he told you where you were. Your gaze locked with his as you repeated your question, "Where are we, Marshall?"

"Just look around, and you'll find out," he insisted, steadily holding your gaze, a smirk forming on his pale face.

You huffed, but despite your stubbornness, you couldn't contain your curiosity. You stole a glance over your surroundings, intending on only skimming over them quickly until he answered your question, but you couldn't help but stare at the scene before you. Upon the seemingly endless hills that surrounded you lay a vast array of all manner of flowers. Roses of all colors were scattered here and there among the white lilies and carnations, along with many other flowers. A small smile spread across your face as you scanned over the beauty of this place and, before you could think, you found yourself bounding towards them.

A child-like laugh left your lips as you ran through the field of flowers, wonder lighting up your bright (e/c) eyes. You were filled with so much glee that you had forgotten who had brought you here. He watched you with a genuine smile on his face. Never before had he seen someone so full of joy, and soon he found himself joining you as you bounded through the flowers and rolled down the hills.

Finally tired out from your antics, you collapsed in a patch of roses, a smile still plastered onto your face. The soft breeze rolled over you as you watched the clouds float slowly past you.

"So," Marshall broke the peaceful silence, much to your displeasure, "I take it you like it here?"

"Yeah, I guess it's okay," you grumbled, suddenly remembering the person who brought you here. Your previous jubilance faded away slowly, to be replaced again by the usual hatred and stubbornness, though you still had to admit that you had enjoyed this place. It was beautiful, one could get lost forever in its endless fields.

Marshall sighed, staring up at the clouds with you, "Back to normal then, huh?"

You glanced at him for a moment, confused, before turning your gaze skyward once more, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, I thought we were making progress," he explained himself, "you seemed like you were enjoying yourself."

"I was," you mumbled glancing over at him, your eyes darkening, "then I remembered who I was with."

Marshall went silent for a moment, his usual smirk absent from his face. He appeared lost in thought when he finally spoke, "Why do you hate me so much, (y/n)?"

His question caught your undivided attention as you sat straight up and stared at him, loathing for him evident in your (e/c) eyes, "Why? Because you're the reason I'm even here in the first place!"

He looked confused for a moment, "Well, yeah, I brought you here, but you hated me before then."

You shook your head, "No, that isn't what I meant!"

"Well, then what did you mean?" he urged you to continue, now sitting up as well and facing you.

Angry tears started to form in your eyes, but you forced yourself to calm down, "Do you really want to know why I hate you so much?"

He nodded, "Yes, I do."

You took a deep breath, preparing yourself to tell your story, "When I was around six years old, I used to live in a humble village far away from here with my mom and dad. We lived a normal life as farmers, growing food and taking care of livestock, until our village was attacked.

"We could hear the screams from our barn, so we ran out to see what all the commotion was about, and what do we see? A vampire. We see a vampire flying around, swooping down on people before dragging them off screaming to who knows where. Then, the vampire turned to look at me. I was so scared that I ran away without even thinking about it.

"My parents called after me, but I didn't listen. I was too frightened of the vampire. I could hear his laughter as he chased me further and further away from my village, until he finally got bored and left me all alone. I cried out for my parents, but they fell on deaf ears. The only things that could hear me were the trees, and I wasn't gonna get any help from them.

"I had to scrounge for food and water, and I used hollowed trees or logs as shelter for years, until I grew up and decided to go out looking for my parents. That's when I decided to become and adventurer, and through that, I met Fionna and Cake. I was hoping that through my travels with them that I would find my village again, that I would find my parents again. But instead, I found you."

Marshall was quiet, staring at you with shocked eyes. Tentatively, he opened his mouth to speak, "So...what does that have to do with me?"

Fury lighted in your eyes, "Are you stupid?"

"Perhaps," Marshall shrugged, a small smirk forming on his face, "I just don't get why you hate me."

Screaming in frustration, you stood up abruptly, pointing an accusatory finger at him, "You were the vampire, Marshall! You were the one who attacked my village and separated me from my parents! I would still be with them, if it weren't for you!"

For once, Marshall was speechless, the smirk fell from his face as he watched you break down into tears. Recollections of the event started to fill his mind and his eyes widened as all the pieces began falling together. For once in his life, he felt truly guilty as he looked at your sobbing form.

"I'm sorry," he reached out to you to try and comfort you, only for his hand to be slapped away.

"Don't touch me," you hissed under your breath, tears still streaming down your face.

His hand dropped back down to his side as he tried to think of something to say to lighten the mood, but nothing he could say would fix what he had already done. He had been the cause of your pain, and because of his foolish actions, he had made you hate him before he even knew who you were. Regret washed over him as he tried desperately to think of a valid reason for why he attacked your village that day, though the truth is, he was just bored and looking for something to do. He cursed himself for being so careless as he stared down at you. Unbeknownst to you, he made a silent vow to help you be happy again, no matter the cost.
