Link felt like the biggest idiot in all of the world.
And the howling wind that cackled mockingly around them did not help.
"No panicking. I'm the Hero of Time, and everything will be fiiiiine...." he muttered, trying to reassure himself with no sucess, as he and Navi stood where Zelda had been sleeping.
If little blue balls of light could have facial expressions, Link could've sworn he saw Navi roll her invisible eyes.
"Hero of Time, eh? More like Loser of Time." she grumbled, darting around in annoyance.
Link glared at her. "Not helping, professor," he growled. Then he took a long, full, breath, trying to calm his thoughts that ran wild in his head. He had enough with Zelda being kidnapped. How many times does she need to disappear so helplessly?!
The two of them stood still, Hylian and fairy, next to Epona, who look about just as flustered as they were.
And they stood for quite a while.
"Hey Einstein, I hope you're gonna get moving sometime this month," Navi muttered, which meant that this was different, because usually listening to Navi talk would break your eardrums, Hylian or no Hylian.
"Yeah, yeah...I know. Well actually I don't know...." Link murmured listlessly. "I think Zelda's 100,000,000th disappearance, A.K.A. her most recent one, A.K.A. just now....links back to Dark Link's arrival that day."
"Argh, I hoped you would know more than just that," the annoying fairy spoke in that annoying way.
"Well..." Link started, but then was cut off by a strange, haunting sound, followed by a mysterious noise that sounded like a dry, voiceless hissing. Epona snorted uneasily and Link laid a steady hand on his cold sword hilt. Navi flitted around awkwardly.
Navi spoke loudly over the wailing gust, but her voice was still quiet. "Link...this isn't a monster."
"Wha--" he was about to reply, but those were his last words as the wind drowned them all in a tempest of sand that hissed and stung like a thousand needles, biting into flesh mercilessly.
"NAVI!" Link screamed into the chaos. "EPONA!"
His words were drained harshly into the pandemonium, and seemed to encourage the storm that roared and screeched, equivalant to monstrosity.
The pricks of sand tore at his clothes, threatening to gouge out his eyes and blind him for eternity. The sun that once shone luminously had disappeared, surrendering to the wicked hellspawn of a sandstorm. Link had no idea where Navi or Epona were, and his thoughts were penetrated by the scathing bullets that screamed to bury him alive.
Gasping for air, Link struggled to breath. The cyclone refused to let him. The sand clogged his nose, making every breath he took equivalant to inhaling earth, bit by bit. He panted and gasped as the cackling wind tore through him, making him feel as vunerable as ever. Link felt his throat slowly fill and close up with sand. His vision disappeared. He slowly sank, growing limper by the second.
This sand...so soft...
