     Jacob's POV

I was floating in darkness, suspended in air by an unknown force. My body gently rocked back and forth, and I became aware of an outside force. The rocking turned to a hard shake, and my eyes flew open. I sat bolt upright, causing my arm to explode in pain. I cried out and put my hand to my shoulder, a deep gouge evident. Someone came running to me from behind a tree stump. Jane. She knelt down beside me and checked my shoulder.

     "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, just jarred it a bit. What happened?"

"You got shot by an arrow", she gave a forced smile, "I had to pull it out of your shoulder"

As she leaned in to look at my wound, I had time to watch her in detail. She had long brunette hair running to her back, blue eyes, and a bronzed complexion. As I was watching her, I realized I didn't even know these things about myself.

     "Jane?"

     "Yeah?"

     "What color are my eyes?"

Her eyes locked onto mine. "Green, why?"

     "Your's are blue"

"Oh, ok. Thanks" She went back to work. She touched the edge of my wound, and I cringed. "How long was I out?"

"About...", she looked to the timer in the sky, "8 hours. Look, there's some flint shrapnel in your shoulder, and I've gotta get it out before it gets infected. Here's a stick to bite on, get ready."

Ever so slowly, she pulled out each sliver of flint, the largest nearly an inch long. I had to get a replacement stick, because I bit through the other one. When the deed was done, Jane stood up and looked at me. She cocked her head to the side and admired her work.

"Well, all's done but two things, first, you need a cast, second, you need a bath"

I forced a grin. "Is it really that bad?"

"You're coated in your own blood with a gaping hole in your shoulder. I'd say that's pretty bad. Anyways, you need to clean out that wound, unpleasant as it may be. I did a little bit, but it needs a good clean"

"Alright, just let me get up"

"Oh, no you don't, you're lying right here until I say you can move!"

I sighed, then slipped back into a dreamless sleep.
