-Chapter 18: Tables and Terror
“So, how is your English project going with Jae?” Jeanette asked me as she placed a lollipop in her mouth. “I am so curious to know about what he is like underneath all of his makeup and hair. He seriously looks like a china doll or something very cute but creepy.”
“It’s going great. Do you seriously think he is cute looking?” I looked at her and she handed me a lollipop as she nodded her head. “I would have never thought you would have actually thought that to yourself. Well, I do think you have a crush on him. You just covered it up by being mean to him. You have to admit, he is one beautiful boy.”
Jeanette laughed. “Yeah, he is pretty beautiful. I did have a crush on him at one point. It was before you started dating him though and then I stopped liking him. I guess I didn’t want to compete with you for his affection since I knew he didn’t like me that much. I did make his life hell.”
“You really didn’t.” I unwrapped the wrapper of the lollipop and stuck it in my mouth. “This is good! I think my lollipop is grape!”
“You’re seriously very strange Cassie,” Jeanette said and she shook her head. “I guess I didn’t do too much damage to his life. Umm…I noticed something strange when I was at his house when I tried ruining the party. I saw a picture of him and some girl who looked very pretty. Who was she?”
I closed my eyes. “That was Jae and his ex. Her name is Tiffany and she used Jae to try and get what she wanted from him. When she couldn’t, she cheated on him. That’s all I actually know based on what he has said and what his parents have told me.”
“Oh, I see. She seems like a model based on what I saw. Are you worried about her trying to get him back or him wanting her back?”
I shrugged. “I don’t really think about it at all. He doesn’t seem to want her back since she cheated on him and he just found out she never really cared for him. Sure, she might like him a lot but she could just like his looks. I am sure he has changed ever since they dated.”
Jeanette pushed a piece of hair out of her face. “Well, maybe you shouldn’t worry about her. She isn’t very important in my opinion. After all, Jae probably doesn’t even have an inch of feelings for her.”
“I guess I have nothing to worry about. She makes him upset anyways. He told me a few things like how she wanted him to be more social and open. I think Jae is pretty social and he is very open. Well, most of the time he is.”
Jeanette smiled. “You have a lot of hope and spirit Cass. So, about how I acted before…”
“You know I’m over that. I don’t hold grudges like some people do. I am a very nice person and I know you have changed despite the fact it only took me one day to let you back into my life as my best friend again. You seriously have tried making it up ever since that day.” I smiled back and pushed the sucking into my mouth. I took it out and looked up at the sky. “It’s a nice day out despite it being cool out.”
“It is. I should have worn a sweater,” Jeanette said wrapping her arms around herself. “Hey, I see Jae!” She pointed behind me and I turned a bit. “He looks cozy and very fashionable. The fact he missed us talking about him makes this even more fashionable. He’s fashionably late.”
I laughed and smiled at Jae. “Hey baby,” I said with a smile.
Jae smiled back. “What are you two doing out here? Isn’t it cold out?”
“Well, we were just talking out here. We usually just talk out here and hang out. At least, that’s what we did when I was hanging out with the mean her,” I answered looking at Jeanette. “I like this new Jeanette. She is much better being her true self and not some crazy popular girl trying to ruin lives and make the world a terrible place to live.”
