Manik slowly crept into the room. He saw the doctor with a syringe and he was loading it with some kind of orange liquid.
Nandini's eyes grew wide seeing the syringe. Manik felt an overwhelming kind of fear take over himself. He walked slowly to Nandini's other side..
"Ah...Mr. Malhotra. I see you're worried for your wife." The doctor said, winking at Manik.
Manik looked flabbergast while Nandini looked at him, her eyes demanding one thing...ANSWERS.
"Er...yes. My wife" Manik said more to himself. He slightly blushed and didn't dare look at Nandini. He sat on the stool next to Nandini's bed. Her eyes followed him everywhere.
The doctor moved her hand and that's when she averted her gaze from Manik. The doctor injected the syringe and Nandini winced in pain. Involuntarily, she held Manik's hand tightly.
Manik was surprised at the surge of electric current that passed through him. He looked down at their hands, Nandini was holding on to it as if her life depending on it. Manik smiled coyly and placed his other hand on hers, as if it were an assurance.
Nandini looked at him with moist eyes and a small smile touched her lips.
"Mr. Malhotra...your wife needs rest." The doctor said. As soon as he said that, she fell into her slumber.
"Yes yes of course" Manik said and got up.
But he couldn't move because Nandini was still holding on to his hand. His heart made a huge leap and he stood there grinning like a fool who found a chest of gold. He removed his hands, kissed her forehead and moved out.
OUTSIDE THE ROOM
"Isn't that Nandini's bag??" Dhruv asked staring at the bad in Navya's hand.
"Yes. You're right! Her phone is constantly ringing. I was wondering if we should pick it up" Navya said.
"Go on and have a look" Alya encouraged.
They took out the phone and the caller ID displayed "Gulabi Masi"
Navya received the call.
"Hello!! Nandu beta... you're ok na?? Its been four days!!! Where are you??" Masi asked.
"Masi...Nandini is in Manali" Alya said, little tears forming in the corner of her eyes.
"MANALI!! Is she ok?? Please tell bacha" Masi said.
Alya took a deep breath and said, " Masi.....She is fine. Nandini left her phone with me and she's asleep. I'll tell her to call you back tomorrow first thing."
"OK. Thank you for taking care of her. She's a special one. What is ur name by the way bacha??" Masi said.
"I..... Alya" She said and cut the call.
"I'll be back." She looked at her friends with watery eyes. She said and dashed to the washroom.
"O.K.A.Y. That was strange." Mukthi said.
"What a weird day" Cabir sighed.
