"Can you come over?"
"I was just with you. Ya know..... when I walked you home..."
"It's important."
"How important?"
"Ming. I'm serious. As a boyfriend could you please come over."
"Fine. I'll be there in ten."
"Thank you."
"Yeah." I hang up and sey my phone onto my bed. I walk down stairs to my parents, who are in the dining room.
"Is he coming?" My dad asks.
"Yes." I hug my dad. "What if he doesnt take it well?"
"We'll be in here if anything doesn't go well."
"What if he breaks up with me?"
"Sweety-" my mom holds my hand. "If he does that then he never truly loved you. Anyways you're only 17, going on 18, and you will find someone who will love and cherish you for the rest of your life."
"He'll be here soon." I get up and stay by the front door.
When I was born, I was born in America while my parents were visiting my grandparents. Both my mom and dad are American but moved to Japan two years before I came along. So I have an American birth certificate and my legal residence is here, in Japan. My mom and dad's work firm is moving to LA so I'll be going with them. New home. New town. New school. No friends. I'll be going to a private school, an hour away from my new house, it's a boys and girls school so that's fine. Hell, even an all girls school would be fine.
I jump when there's a knock at the door. I open the door and smile. "Hey Ming."
"What's up Carmen?"
"Come in. Let's go to the couch."
We go into the family room and we sit on the couch. "Why did your parents look so worried?"
"Um... Because they're waiting for a reaction."
"To what?"
"We're moving."
"Oh cool. To where? What street?"
"Billard road."
"There's no street with that name anywhere near here."
"Bullard Road.... Las Angeles."
"So....You're moving across the sea.."
"Yup." I bite my lip.
"When?"
"A week from now."
"What about us?"
"Well...you'll be doing university entrance exams so you'll be really busy. I'm just going to pack for the next two days then try and have some fun before I have to leave. I've already enrolled in the school there and I already have my classes. My credits are already switched over and I'll be able to graduate with my class. But us.... I don't know."
