~3 months later~

There was too much bloodshed, people Hiccup had grown up with...

dead.

After Pitch's death, it didn't take long for Dagur's men to turn against him. Luckily for everyone, he was rich, really rich, enough for everyone to have a portion to rebuild their lives, start fresh.

Fishlegs, with the help of a few others, hacked into the police's computers and successfully erased everyone's record.

As for Hiccup, the majority of the money was left for him, Fishlegs was kind enough to erase everything, birth records, finger prints, he never existed, he was never even born. But all the money in the world couldn't heal the pain.
He couldn't have it worse.

The man he loved, taken from him, twice. He could remember standing in front of the grave, but what was the point. An empty casket funeral, was not comforting, neither was the fact that Jack's body was never found.

Yet he did not shed a single tear, not there. It was once he was home, alone, did he break down. Crying himself to sleep for far too long, Astrid and Merida tried comforting, but there was so little they could do for this broken soul.

It was a month after Jack's death did he make the decision to continue where he and his lover left off.

Now he sits on the porch of his beach house, overlooking the ocean. He closes his eyes and inhales the fresh salty air the sea has to offer. He couldn't remember the last time he had let his lungs breath so freely.

He actually couldn't remember how freedom felt, but there will always be the void. Sometimes he had dreams where Jack was still alive, holding him closely. He could feel the warmth, but once he woke up, he would slowly shed a few tears and curse his mind for betraying him in such a hurtful way. He would lay awake for hours, afraid of falling asleep, afraid of dreaming of Jack, because he knew the happiness he felt in his dreams would never come true again.

But it wasn't all just dreams, sometimes it would be nightmares. Hearing Jack's screams, the blood, the river. He would wake up screaming, crying, looking around but he would find himself alone in the dark room. With the exception of his black labrador.

Living alone in that house was too lonely, so he rescued a dog from the streets and named him after his best friend. Toothless.
He was just enough comfort he needed to keep himself sane in that house. Since Hiccup refused to ever go into town, except for shopping.
He kept his distance from everyone and enjoyed the sandy beach with his dog.

"Come on boy, why don't we watch the sunset?" Hiccup turned to Toothless who responded with a small huff and wag of his tail. Both made their way down and sat on the sand. It was warm, and already cooling down with the setting sun.

It was moments like this he thought about Jack the most. He would've enjoyed this view, this house, this life.

A bark from Toothless snapped him out of his thoughts. Asking what happened, the black dog soon took off running, after something, or someone.
It could've been a ray of sunlight reflecting off the water, his mind was probably playing tricks on him like in his dreams.
But this time he wasn't sleeping.
In the distance....

A man with white hair.
