The night has fallen in Yellowspring. It was late, and most people were preparing to sleep for the night. Jaime and Andrew were no different. Jaime had already gone to their, and Andrew was getting ready to do the same. The first day of school had been more eventful than they expected, and Andrew and Jaime were exhausted.
"Alright, Goodnight Ericka. Seeya tomorrow." Yawned Andrew.
"Oh! Andrew! I forgot to tell you! I got a call from your orthodontist today." Said Ericka.
"Yeah?"
"Your braces are getting removed in 2 months!"
"R-really?!" asked Andrew, overjoyed.
"Yep! In 2 months, you'll be able to show off that that beautiful smile you've been hiding!"
"Awesome!" said Andrew, jumping into the air."Goodnight Ericka!"
"Goodnight Andrew." said Ericka as she watched him happily zoom up the stairs.
Andrew, thinking Jaime was still awake, ran into their room, shouting.
"Jaime! Jai-"
Jaime, who had just fallen asleep, slowly turned to Andrew and gave him a tired, annoyed look. It was a known fact that a tired Jaime was an angry Jaime. Jaime loved his sleep, and temporarily hated anyone who disturbed it.
"Oops. Anyway, guess what? My braces are getting removed in 2 months!" Said Andrew with a grin.
Jaime pulled out his black marker, and a piece of paper. He quickly wrote something down, crumpled the paper, threw it at Andrew, and went back to sleep. Andrew caught the paper and read it to himself.
"Fan-fucking-tastic. Now shut the hell up and let me sleep."
"Hehe, goodnight Jaime." Said Andrew as he walked to his bed.
In response, Jaime, eye closed, gave Andrew the middle finger.
Andrew ignored his "brother's" harsh gesture and laid down, staring at the ceiling. Andrew had many reasons for his insecurity and low confidence, but one the major ones were his braces. He hated them. He just viewed them as one of the many other reasons why Jaime was better than him. But soon, they would be out of the equation. It felt weird to even think that his braces were finally going to be taken off, after 5 years of having them. Would his smile be like Jaime's? Would it be better than Jaime's? Or, god forbid, worse than Jaime's?
"I guess I'll have to wait and see... I wonder what Jocelyn will think when she sees me without them..." thought Andrew as he drifted off into sleep.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
As usual, Andrew was the only one to wake up when the alarm clock rang. But instead, Andrew decided that he'd shower first and wake up Jaime after, stopping Jaime from pulling any pranks like he did the morning before.
Andrew spent his whole shower doing what most teens his age did. Think up nearly impossible, unrealistically perfect scenarios in his head.
"This is ridiculous." Thought Andrew, blushing. "I've just met her and I'm already thinking of romantic dinners with her and dates and-"
Andrew's thoughts were interrupted by a series of rushed, intense knocks on the bathroom door. He momentarily turned off the water in the shower.
"Who is it?" Asked Andrew.
Silence.
"Is that you Jaime? Knock once for yes and twice for no."
One quick knock was heard.
