Chapter Nine The Ties that Bind

"Hey Tony, you have airborne heading up towards the bridge," Zatanna informed him through her communicator. She flew higher into the air and caught sight of two drones approaching Captain America, "Cap, you got incoming."
A grunt was heard from him, "Incoming already came in, Zee."
"Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely," Captain America said to Iron Man over the radio link. Zatanna glanced down at Pietro, who rested against a wall in order to catch his breath for a moment.
"The rest of us have one job, tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt them back. You get killed... walk it off," Captain America announced to the group. Zatanna laughed and aided some civilians to safety, "Words of wisdom."
Pietro inhaled deeply before he took off again, momentarily glancing at the sorceress in the air to see her fighting more drones.
While she fought, Zatanna heard cries coming from below a street bench on a bridge. She followed them to find a little girl, covering her ears and screaming. "Hey, hey, look at me. It's okay. You're okay. What's your name?"
It didn't seem like the young girl had understood her. Zatanna furrowed her eyebrows before she placed her hand over her throat and in her head voiced, evig em eht ytiliba ot kaeps naivokos.
A was a golden light appeared around her throat and vanished just the same. Zatanna turned to the girl and asked for her name once more in Sokovian, a language she would understand.
The girl's cries came to a minimum as she gradually choked out, "Danica."
Zatanna smiled and held out her hand to her, "Okay, Danica. I'm Zatanna, okay?"
"I want my mommy," She cried out quickly and crossed her arms in order to grip her body. Fear encircled her mind, yet seeing the Avenger gave her a sense of security. Zatanna glanced behind her and saw her area wasn't the best place to be. Zatanna reaches her arms out and said, "Okay I'm gonna get you to safety and then find your mommy okay?"
The brunette girl nodded and stood. She reached out and wrapped her arms around the Avenger. Zatanna placed her arms around the girl and said, "Ekat su ot ytefas."
"Danica!" A voice cried out when the little girl and Zatanna appeared inside a safe zone building. Danica' mother ran towards them and immediately embraced her daughter. Zatanna smiled at their reunion and felt glad she was able to keep the together. Danica's mother looked up from her daughter's shoulder and cried to the sorceress, "Thank you."
