5 YEARS LATER: SUMMER
"Zuri!" I heard someone call as I rolled over in my bed, trying to drown out the sound so I could sleep a little bit longer. I groaned and tried to fall back into a deep sleep, hoping that my door was locked to keep out unlikely guests'. It wasn't until something heavy jumped on my back that I realized I forgot to lock the door last night after finishing my novel.
"Get off me," I mumbled into my pillow, while my friend gave out a hearty laugh. I lifted my head and looked behind me, "Seriously, get off me. I will make you fall off this bed."
"C'mon Zuri," he said while turning me on my back, "It's almost nine in the morning. Get up," he said while giving out his famous smirk. I glared at him while his grey eyes mischievously gave away that he wasn't going to let me go back to bed. I sighed, trying to fool him, and looked at him with those innocent eyes he loved so much.
"Fine, I won't go back to bed," I said looking at him. He smiled down at me, until I gave a dirty smirk, making his expression more fearful.
"Wait, what?" he said as I placed my hands' on his chest and pushed him off my bed and onto the floor. He fell with a thud and gave me an evil glare while I laughed, sticking my tongue out at him in a playful matter. He smiled, shaking his head, while I sat up from my position, my hands keeping me stable behind my back, my midnight hair falling down my shoulders to the middle of my back. I watched as he got on his knees and crossed his arms on the bed, looking up at me, giving me a soft smile.
"So," I said, messing up his silvery hair with my hand, "What are we doing today? Marcus want us to go after someone again?"
"No, not this time," he said smiling, chuckling a little bit, "He's actually coming with us today. We're going to get you your own customizable weapon," he said smiling. I looked at him in shock, thinking this couldn't be real.
"Are you serious? Or are you just trying to fool me, Mercury? Seriously, if you're joking, I'm going to slap you" I said. He laughed and nodded his head.
"I'm not joking, Zuri, you'll get your weapon today," he said, bracing himself as I tackled him in a hug, he laughed when I was on top of him. We looked at each other for a while before I looked away, my cheeks getting redder by the second. I got off Mercury and looked at him, reaching my hand out as he grabbed it, pulling him up, "Now get dress, now, we're leaving pretty soon."
"Alright, I will," I said smiling as I grabbed my clothes, walking into the shower. I turned on the water and entered right away, since our shower's time was very limited due to how much water we could use a week. I shivered under the cold water, my mind flashing back to the day I first met my best friend after my mother's death, how the murderers' got a hold of her and killed her before my eyes. I shivered as I snapped out of it, finishing my shower. I turned the water off and stepped out in a blinding white towel, my favorite color to compliment my other favorite colors: dark green and grey. I smiled as I dressed, remembering how Mercury said I look like a warrior when I first picked out my clothes for battle when I turned sixteen last month. I laughed and looked at my outfit: my clean, white long-sleeve shirt was blinding as it complemented my pale skin tone and dark hair, with my grey shorts reaching my thighs so I could move freely with a white half skirt with light green trim around the back, covering my butt from any unwanted glances. My dark green chest armor had tank-top sleeves and only went to the bottom of my chest, but still kept me safe. I had on dark green combat boots that went to mid calve, but long dark green socks that went just above my knees. I placed a forest green quiver around my upper torso and tied a belt around my waist, knowing the exact weapon that I wanted. I tied a black hair-tie halfway down my hair, making a mental reminder that I have to ask Mercury for a haircut.
Hey, he may be a guy, but he gives good haircuts.
I looked at myself one more time before smirking in satisfaction, walking out to meet Marcus and Mercury so I can finally get my weapon I've been waiting to get for so long. I can still remember the envy that stained my mind when Mercury was able to get his weapon, a black pistol that can turn into a deadly knife, when he turned sixteen. When I entered the room, I saw Marcus sitting at the table with a small cup of coffee while Mercury was doing something in the kitchen.
"Good morning, Marcus," I said, as I took a seat at the table while he looked up from his Scroll, obviously checking the news to see who was doing what and who he needed to kill, or at least Mercury and I, since Marcus was getting older. But since I was getting my weapon today, we would all take the day off for once. I sighed, thinking of the weapon constantly while Mercury brought over a glass of juice for me. I gave him a soft smile and he returned the smile. I took a sip of the juice and looked at Marcus who was laughing.
"You know, you were just like your father when he was your age. Always quiet and shy, and very powerful," he said, looking down, "Man, I do miss him."
"I miss him too, Marcus," I said frowning, "But do you know what kind of a weapon he had?"
"Yes, I do," he said chuckling, "He had a sword that used dust to boost his power. I'm guessing you are getting one like that, since you have that belt along your waist?"
"Yeah," I said nodding, "But it will transform into a bow, just like the weapon my mom used before she died. She taught me a little bit of archery before we were attacked that night, so it helps if I used a bow as well."
"Very well then," Marcus said as Mercury sat down in a chair next to me, "We will leave in a few minutes, but I have a mission for you tomorrow. On the east side of Vale there is a man who is a part of the White Fang who is planning to go and rob Dust around noon. I need you two to murder and grab that Dust after he steals it, okay? That Dust will be worth a lot, so we can get money back for food and other ammunition. I would do it, but I'm getting too old now."
"We'll do it, Dad," Mercury said, smirking darkly while looking at me, "Right, Zuri?"
"You bet," I said smiling, "What s great way to test out my weapon as well!"
"Alright, you two," Marcus said while sipping the last of his coffee, "Let's go. Today is a special day for you, Zuri."
"No kidding," I said laughing, "Mercury already told me that."
"Well, it is," Mercury chimed in, "Your weapon is like a part of you. The fact that you are getting a weapon that resembles both of your parents' should make you feel that much powerful."
"No kidding, Mercury," I said rolling my eyes, "No kidding."
